Is it better to get a classic style, or a unique style?

Just wanted to get some general opinions for fun :)

There are so many unique and wonderful rings on here, but also some really radical and wonderfully unique rings! There are also a lot of re-sets which leads me to believe that it's easy to change your mind about what you like...

So, thoughts? Better to get a classic style, or something that you like right now and maybe won't stand the test of time?

I'm debating a classic three-stone setting vs a lotus style three stone setting (I don't have a pic yet, but I'll get one and come back to show you all!)

Here's my two cents' worth - which is by the way worth exactly that:

It's better to get the style that you love and will love to wear. =)

As to whether the style's potential longevity should be taken into account - that depends - on you.

I have two friends whose rings are very much of the era in which they got married. One was married in the 70's, and her ring is a free-form style. The other was married in the 80's, and her ring is a bridge style, in which the center diamond is sort of suspended over a river of pave-set (or possibly illusion-set) diamonds. Based on comments both of these women have made, they're aware that e-ring trends have moved on, but they're holding on to their original e-rings.

If you want a timeless style, get a timeless style. If you want a unique style but you're concerned that it might leave you looking "dated" because probably won't want to change out your ring for sentimental reasons, you should probably get a classic style. If you want a unique style and you don't really care whether it will look dated at some point, get a unique style!

I love it! Great perspective :)

I think it's possible to find one with a little of both.

What is your version of unique? It all depends on your taste. Some people's opinion of unique might be classic to another.

If you were asking about my taste, well then I think a 3 stone halo is unique and classic at the same time. And that's exactly what I have.  I plan to keep this ring and pass it down to my children as an heirloom.

But I do want to go back to a solitaire since I miss that classic look.

What is the unique setting that you were thinking about?

It'll be a week until I'll be back at the jewellery shop that has the unique three stone with lotus setting, but I'll post pics as soon as I can!

For now, here's a ring enhancer that I think is more different than it is classic, but I dig it!

Classic styles for wedding/engagement and maybe a unique fun right hand ring. lol Best of both worlds! :naughty:

I agree with Minims. It depends on you whether you think you would be adverse to a reset in the future. If yes then go with classiC.

I went for a unique look. That said, I wouldn't have gone for it just for the sake of bieng unique. I wanted unique, searched till I found one and am very happy with it.
