I don''t see a whole lot of diamonds with this grading. Just wondering what the overall consensus is on them? They appear to be cheaper which makes me believe they aren''t that great.

Thanks (I''m new...searching for something for my 4 year g/f)

This place has loads of information...

No.

If you send an IGI F VS1 to GIA or AGS they will not give it F VS1.
It will come back with lower grades.
If the owner believed GIA or AGS would have given it F VS1 they would have sent it there so they could charge more for it.

That means IGI diamonds are not really cheaper.
They are just "generously" graded so the buyer thinks they got a great deal.

This soft grading is an outrage, but it is true.

Thanks for the quick reply...that explains a diamond I found http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/D-VS1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1270903.asp couldn''t figure out why it was so cheap compared to others with similar attributes.

This link explains how the grading labs rank.

This link explains how the grading labs rank.
And for those that are interested this link has a video of Peter Yantzer talking about the various tier labs and how they hoodwink the public (my words not his.)

Actually there are three videos there, but the first one is the one you want for this discussion.

Wink

I just took a look at a sample certificate from IGI''s website.

Extract here:

Proportions: EXCELLENT
Depth: 61.9%
Table: 60.5%
Crown angle: 35.3''
Pavilion angle: 41.7''
