Is ASET and IDEAL scope only for loose diamonds?

Hi All

Pardon a really noob question; is the ASET and IDEAL scope only meant for evaluating loose diamonds? Are we able to use them after the diamonds are set? My brother is thinking to examine the diamond, which has been set into a ring, with either ASET and/or IDEAL scope after his ring has arrived this week.

Interesting, in my journey, my original diamond vendor said the ASET is not relevant for step cuts.

Once I started learning and discussing here, it seems like it a very good to tool to identify which stones you want to look at and which one's have "dead" / leakage areas especially if you are looking online.

If you are see the stone in person, then the key question which one do you like and compare it to others.

Sure you can use either on a mounted ring.
ASET is easier to use on a mounted stone because its not as picky about the back lighting as IS.
