I opened my big mouth earlier this year and agreed to become LEED certified because they want one of us to be. I then forgot about it. I was reminded yesterday and have to be certified by the end of the fiscal year (Oct 1). I checked into it and realized they''ve tightened the strings a little bit. Things aren''t as easy as they used to be!

I was wondering if anyone had gone through the certification process and test recently and if so, could comment on the amount of time it consumed. I have a bad, bad feeling it''s a LOT. This''ll teach me.

My FI is LEED certified, but he did it last year before they changed the test. (I think now, you have to do continuing ed to remain certified, but you take a smaller version of the test?) He didn''t study seriously and did not pass the first time. (missed it by a few Q''s). He passed the second time... I''ll ask him how much studying is needed when he gets home.

I think you''re right- you do have to do continuing ed to keep it.

The kicker is, you have to qualify to take the exam- either by working on a LEED project, being enrolled in a related curriculum or proving you work for a company that is envirnomentally focused. And this may provide my escape route. I am not working on a LEED project and I''m not enrolled in a curriculum. When I worked for Sbux, I could totally qualify as they were quite LEED focused, but the company I work for now, um, not so much. We''re not a design firm or even similar. It''s going to take some fancy footwork for my managers to qualify me. So I''m just gonna sit back and watch it develop.

My husband is - there were some teaching seminars and tests, but I don''t remember it being an especially grueling process. However, he did the LEED certification shortly after his MBA, so maybe it just paled in comparison to that amount of work
