Is anyone hoarding a loose stone?

Or several loose stones?

Why do you keep it? Why don't you set it? When is enough enough, and you decide to give up and sell it? (If ever!) Tell me about your stone hoarding experience.

I've had a little .40 ct old cut pear for a year and a half. Since buying it, I've reset my cushion, and bought a loose OEC and set it (and then sold it). And still the little pear stays loose.

I'm mostly sure just how I want to set it. A part of me just wishes it were bigger, and so I hesitate. However, I love the diamond in every other way and can't convince myself to sell it, either.

My hobby is jewelry design, so I have boxes and boxes of loose gems.

Gems and pearls, now...
I do not set them because setting costs, and because I tend to wear only a few types of stones/colors. I would plan to liquidate all smaller ones, then think again, then say, "why not?", and keep them till the next round of shedding my stuff.

With pearls, it seems like I got interest in beading, but no time for it, either... although beading seems very comforting.

Yes lots of them, they are mostly colored stones ( topaz ect)
Pretty as they are, it is expensive to get them set so they sit in gem jars waiting . When i am ready to spare a few thousand on some RHR's and in the mean time i'll be ok with my diamond sets . They are fun to look at anyway!

@tkyasx78 Yes, I enjoy pulling out my loose stone and admiring it in the meantime! I feel bad that Izvestia done nothing with it.

What about in a bracelet dantyG? A .40ish stones sounds like it would be perfect for something like this...
(or do you already have a dbty bracelet?)

Edit...No, :(sad I dont have any lose stones

That's a lovely suggestion, tyty! I've only ever had rings as far as my fine jewelry goes. I love rings! However, I have considered just putting this little pear in a plain pendant and being done with it. Then again, I would want to admire the diamond up close, which brings me back to a ring. I'm a lost cause! Since starting this thread I have thought more seriously about just selling it and committing to saving up until I can get a pear closer to .75. I'll need to find some patience! I get antsy when I have money in my diamond budget.

I collect so I have boxes and boxes of them but haven't set anything in a long time due to setting costs being so high

Many, but only because I haven't found the right design and / or cannot bear to part with them. I will probably gift them to family members over time, particularly to my children.

Yes, I'm hoarding. Sometimes I really like the color and other times it's the cut that makes me want to keep it even though I have no plans to set. I keep telling myself I need to sell but when I pull them out in their little gem boxes they twinkle at me so bewitchingly.

One as in singular? I wish! I have 3 boxes of stones. I don't even think about how many is in each box (too many...lol)

Not hoarding, but I have a star sapphire I bought years ago and an ametrine that are sitting in a box.

Yes, :mrgreen2::mrgreen2::mrgreen2: I've been obsessed with a particular stone, not even a gemstone. But I bought a bunch of them in different sizes and shapes and am trying to figure out which ones to set and how.

Hoarding? A stone? Oh....let me think...

Oh my!!! So, tell me more about this. These all look like diamonds, right? Do you have a project in mind?

Well, truth be told - most of these are now set or sold, as this photo was taken a couple of years ago.

2017 has been my year of "Set That Diamond!" - and much progress has been made. Thank goodness.

I say, "at least the things I hoard fit in a safe."
