I think nothing really bothers me, as long it''s worn in a clean, classy way. In moderation, also.

I''ve seen girls make Uggs look very cute and understated. Then there''s the wifebeater, jean daisy-dukes and Uggs look. Not so classy. Same with leggings. A nice cotton legging under a cute, flattering dress = ok. Leggings as pants = NEVER OK.

I hate leggings as pants! THEY''RE NOT PANTS! i allways feel a little sick when I see girls doing this.
Ok, I don''t understand what is wrong with leggings as pants. And I''m talking about leggings (thick) not TIGHTS. We''ve seen the Juicy velour pants, yoga pants, sweats, you name it, but leggings are gross? I don''t get it. If you have the body for them I think they are flattering and fun with boots, flats, or heels and an awesome top.

My supervisor at work wore them as pants last week, and she looked SO cute - but she has seriously the greatest legs ever. If you have a single roll, you should not wear leggings as pants lol.

And omg, YES, bring on the goth. I used to be SUCH a baby goth in high school. It would be seriously hilarious to dress up my baby in black, too hehe.

Wait, flannel went OUT of style?? Central IL missed that memo. I personally quit wearing flannel many years ago, but most of the men never stopped.

I actually love the look of a man in flannel, I loves me some lumberjack!!

My sis who''s almost 20 can wear a flannel and make it look couture. I think it''s all in the body shape and styling.

hahaha I was at Alderwood yesterday, but didn't notice the window displays because I was trying to get in and out as quickly as possible. Helzberg sent me a coupon for a free pair of pearl earrings and I went and go those 'with no strings attached,' yet the sales gal had me trying on pearl necklaces for 1/2 hour. I'm NOT a pearl person at all, so I had to pretend all the stuff she showed me was my thing. Now I'm not sure what to do with the earrings. I did wear them yesterday and my kids told me they don't look like real pearls! lol
Funny! I ended up with some pearl earrings in a similar way, and never wore them. I gave them to a co-worker. Yeah, Alderwood was a horrifying zoo- if MAC O lipstick wasn't so essential to my life I wouldn't have braved it. It was like the really trendy-young-girl stores that had the Goth stuff, like Forever 21 and stuff. Places I would be lucky to fit a L at a size 14/16!

ETA: And having to feign interest in a sales pitch for a half hour? You *definitely* earned those earrings!
LittleGreyKitten - I posted some blurry photos of my new free Helzberg earrings in the pearls section! lol The shape of them is just too weird and I'm thinking I'll feel self conscious wearing them. I usually only wear a few jewelry pieces at once, so what I wears always stands out as my primary focus style (just earrings, pendant, wedding set). I'm afraid people will think, "oh, cheapo earrings."

Ya so did my BF!

I was in denial but then I bought a $12 flannel at Target the other day to wear around the house and um...I accidentaly fell in love with it.

IF you have the body for them they CAN work but most of the women I see in them, not to be mean but do not have the body for them, or the leggings are old enough that they are going slightly see-through- it''s just not flattering unless your little or unless atleast your butt is covered by a long top or little dress.

I missed the memo, too. And I'm a woman. So I'm with Karl. (If that makes sense.) I wear it because it is practical for me. The L.L.Bean catalogue stopped making nice tartan plaid flannel shirts for women, but I still wear plaid flannel shirts over snug cotton turtlenecks to stay warm. I usually have a sweater over that layer, too, during the fall and winter. (And that's in a heated house or under a jacket.) When I have to dress well, I cannot wear this ensemble.

I guess I''m the only one who''s excited. When I started college back in 1993, my wardrobe was almost entirely stocked with flannels, so they remind me of happy times, I guess.
Yup..I had flannel overload in Boston in mid 90''s. Personally not a fan though...every guy had flannel shirt and baseball cap pulled low!
Where did you go to school? I went to Boston U. and Berklee College of Music.

will my big bell bottom pants make a come back soon?

Another flannel wearing, MA college kid in the early-mid 90s here (in another city though, not Boston)! I actually had a red plaid flannel hoodie that I wore to classes the day after a long night of, um, studying...yes, studying.

I wonder what happened to that thing? I should dig it out and wear it some day, ya know, just for nostalgia's sake.

Okay, as I''m typing, I''m wearing a red/black flannel shirt. BUT- in my defense, it was a "going away" gift from a couple clueless guy friends 9 years ago when I moved away. I''ve never worn it out of the house. Never ever.

Seriously- flannel is making a comeback? I haven''t been out shopping in the malls in months and months and haven''t been paying attention to fashion trends at all. Didn''t realize flannel was making a return. Maybe it''ll make a quick exit. Here''s the hoping.

I love flannel but with that said I think it is all in the manner in which you wear it. A cute modern slimmer fitting flannel shirt with skinny jeans and moto boots----Cute!

Yes, they''re in right now. Go put them on immediately!

Yes, I am. Although it did make a convenient costume for DH for Halloween flannel shirt ($10) + work boots + hat + fake chainsaw = lumberjack.

Reminds me of the oh so sad flannel jumpers I wore circa early 80''s. Big eeewww, cant believe I ever wore that.

Seriously, we just had to suffer through a return of the worst 80's fashions, and now the biggest fashion flop of the 90's is back.

Wait! Flannel went out of style someplace??

Never mind.. somebody already said that.

Bumper sticker I saw on a minivan: I'm so Goth, I'm dead.

It never went away for the outdoors people and sportsmen and women.

It is classic and practical.

It is just when it went mainstream that is was bleh.

If one has never seen a live fish that wasn''t in a fish tank then they haven''t earned the flannel.

LOL Karl! That says it all for me.

Ha, JD''s worn flannel ever since I''ve known him. I used to too, but the bigger boxier kind back then. I wear that around the house now, but if I found something a little more fitted, I''d wear it out.

and WHAT KARL SAID

I kinda dig the fitted, flannel shirts that certain stores are selling. They're comfortable, warmer than your basic long-sleeved shirt, and the pattern hides spit-up pretty well.

LOL! I love this answer!

Recently I''ve purchased a lovely flannel shirt by Theory, several more pairs of leggings, and some over-the-knee flat boots. I''m 33, but that''s the equivalent of 21 in Manhattan. Plus we work out like maniacs in this town in order to wear leggings as pants

When I first read your remarks above, Karl, I focused on the "practical". Flannel never went away for me not because I am so outdoorsy or sporty, but because I am practical, not into fashion. I also do not work outside the home at the moment. But someone in this thread quoted the last line you wrote about seeing a live fish outside of a tank...and I have, indeed, earned my flannel through fishing. Not that I ever fished needing flannel. I only fished in warm weather. And I stopped fishing when I got old enough to realize what I was doing to the fish. But in the interim, as a child, I was wild about fishing and baited my own hooks and could row a long, heavy, wooden rowboat full of people more than a mile by myself on a lake. You just made me remember that :-).

I flipping hate the look of it, but I also cannot help but feel a little nostalgia as a Gen Xer who came of age in the height of grunge. DH feels unjustifiably proud of his decision to keep all his flannels from 20 years ago. He is constantly running around now telling people how I hate all his clothes, but, what do I know, because now he looks like a hipster. Of course, he looks like a geezer in old, butsted shirts, but it makes him eerily happy.

Amen Sista! I cringe and it is everywhere!! I grew up in rural Indiana, where my dad is a self-proclaimed hillbilly. I have escaped geographically, but the plaid is following me and making me crazy!! I just can''t go there:-)
