I have been working on a sale all morning. A man wanted to buy a bunch of colored stones (tourms, sapphire, tanz ect) and his total was over 4k.

I sometimes sell via the internet (this sale was not using the bay) using my website and paypal is what I use for checkout.
Well, I get an e-mail saying he sent the money and he would like overnight shipping because he NEEDS them right away. I then get a ding on my IPod saying I have a message on my paypal e-mail. I checked the message and it was a confirmation from paypal saying the funds were recieved and they will be released once delivery is confirmed. I didnt think anything of this because 80% of the funds I recieve arnt released till delivery is confirmed...its a new paypal safety policy.

So I called paypal to confirm the money is there (I always double check over the phone with them with large sales) and I am told......nope, no money! The confirmation e-mail I recieved was sent by a 3d party using the paypal e-mail. AKA a SCAM.

So yeah..I wrote the guy and told him the name and address will be reported to the police for fraud. I plan on doing that after my kids cheer practice.

Moral of the story is sellers.....ALWAYS double and triple check your funds before shipping! I have never encountered this scam before and want to give you all a heads up!!!

RH,
Thanks for the heads up. Another thing is to always log into paypal from a new browser window or from the actual ebay link that you won something from. Never log in from an email that is requesting money.

What a *%&$*#**$!! weasel!

Such a lovely day for such an ugly scheme.
Glad you are vigilant and caught it.

They hold your funds until items are delivered..dang..never had that happen to me before..sounds like it sucks..feel free to post any info about this person so others will not fall trap..sorry to hear it hugger

Wow! I''m so glad you checked. Just reading about it makes me soooo mad. What a jerk.

What a scum bag. Hopefully he can be traced, caught and convicted for fraud and attempted theft.

When I sell I hate this policy but if it was effective 2 years ago, I was not scam for the ruby ring in my avatar.

I miss this ring for ever plus I lost all my money

Hey RH- I have had this happened several times, but I always check on paypal site directly first and I ship through paypal anyways, but, I knew it was a scam and played along with it, until the very end... then I call the Royal Canadian police (phonebusters.com) since the scam was happening in Canada, anyways. gave them all the info and the exact address where I was suppose to send the item to, here''s hoping they catch the scumbag and other. I also report to paypal as well.

On a side note, that is odd that your funds don''t get released until delivery confirmation

. I''ve never had that happen to me before either... that is news to me though maybe its on large amount?

It''s something new they do for accounts less then a year old. The were sued for freezing accounts so the have a written policy for new acts to hold till positive feedback is recieved, confirmation of delivery or10 days. I like this better then the freezing BS but apparently it opened new doors for scams!

First off glad to hear that you were careful and weren''t prey for his scam. However it is sad how often we hear about such things. IMHO the internet has made it easier for these type of people who have no moral....

Oh Stci,
I had thought that was the ring you never received, but I wasn''t sure. I do remember reading about your horrible experience on the net. I am so sorry. I assume you never received your ring. Poor you.

Great advice - RH have you reported it to the local police authorities?

Yep but they think it''s a fake name/address. Hopefully they can figure out who they really are.

I''m glad you caught this in time.
