What 'cha think, friends?

I love them.
you get a good visual presence for the weight AND they are a very robust chain, unlikely to break.
The one downside is they can act as ”threading” and remove the fine hairs on the back of your neck ha ha,

Classic. Retro is classic imo. So it’s both. Love a rich buttery gold rope necklace. ❤️

I once dated a man that wore a 22k rope chain. Never took it off. Shower, other stuff :saint: and he did NOT pull it off. So now when I think about it, it makes me wanna:sick:

I’m not a fan of rope necklaces on men. Just my personal preference. :)

My dad gave me one a child, after I broke many necklaces, taking off turtlenecks, sweatshirt etc. He was so proud to give it to me. I believe it was for a Christmas gift and he said the jeweler said this will never break and he was right. I've had it for many years. And yes, my hair gets coiled up which is annoying. However my friend, @PreRaphaelite said just light a match and do a little wave under the necklace and the hair just burns and singes off lol! And that works! Here is mine, hair free along with the pearl @PreRaphaelite gave me!760871

This is beautiful and I love the back-story! But I would have called it a snake chain ... ??

This is what I think of as a rope chain:

A rope chain consists of a number of metal segments with the pattern twisting around to give the appearance of a real rope.

I picked "a dated look" but I think anyone could probably stack it with other chains and have a fabulous look. Just takes the
right stack! Plus, I think the right pendant could also make it look great. So...I'm somewhere between "a dated look" and "a
classic choice" depending on what you do with it!

I see lots for sale still, so I say classic.

I have a rope chain that I’ve always been on the fence about because it feels a bit dated and glitzy. I might need to just get over it.My husband thinks it looks great.

I do like that it has a ball on it that allows the length to be adjusted and I can use it when I want to wear my pearl pendant long. Sorry I don’t have a better photo of it. I think the length is 22in.

What a thoughtful Dad :kiss2:

I wear one a lot, they are a lot cheaper to buy by the gram vintage than belcher chains. I think you have to be more careful about what you wear thank with though otherwise they can look dated.

I had a couple of rope chains back in the day one was a diamond cut chain and the other one was a graduated rope chain, I actually had the chains melted with a some other gold about 7 or 8 years ago

Thats a lovelly combination

I used to wear a good quality Rhodium-plated costume robe chain around my neck and a slightly thicker one as a bracelet all the time, until I realised how difficult they were to clean due to the amount of nooks and crannies, so I ditched them.

DK :))

This style of chain is what I know as a rope chain too.

Rope chains always remind me of my grandma’s jewelry, I’m wearing her chain and coin pendant in this picture. So for that reason, they feel a little old fashioned to me. At the same time, I’ve considered adding a rose gold rope bracelet thinking the color and wearing it on my wrist vs neck would feel more contemporary to me.
