I''ve been considering purchasing a Princess cut diamond online (.90 - 1.03 ct), but getting the ring locally (still not decided on a 3 stone or a solitaire with trailing diamonds). I thought this would be a great strategy. However, a local jeweler said that a loose Princess stone already owned would NOT FIT with any premade ring. Instead, he would have to custom make the ring around the diamond. Is it doable to fit a loose Princess in with a premade ring? Is it much better to custom a ring around the loos diamond? I need help! Thank you in advance!

He lies. It is very possible- he just wants to scare you into buying the entire thing from him.

Agreed, he is lying.

If the measurements of the stone are within the stock size range you should not need to have a ring custom made [in fact, when you order an unfinished setting the manufacturer will often tell you what range of mm size it will take]. Unless the stone is very large or has some strange proportion there should be no problem.

I suspected that might be the case but I needed the confirmation. Thank you so much. I love this forum!!!

i would think that you could put a loose princess into a setting that already exists. it may have to be modified a little bit. i dont think that you would have to go completely custom. maybe he was trying to increase his sale by telling you that you have to go custom
