I am new to PS so maybe my last topic was way too long....so just one question here. Do you guys think a cushion cut halo is too trendy versus a RB solitaire? I like the Christopher Designs halo, the melee is much bigger than a more delicate halo bit I am not sure if it would be less timeless than the RB and look dated...

Thank you for all comments!

I don't think so but it is all a matter of personal preference. You should get what you love! The RB is definitely the more 'classic' choice but I think the cushion halo is also a beautiful choice.

I don't think so- get what you love!

Three peat of the above sentiment - get what you love. If it makes your heart sing when you look at it and give you joy - that's the setting for you! If you are new to PS, you've probably read enough posts by lurking to know ... there's a lot of upgrading that happens!!! So, enjoy this setting for now - and it could very well be your lifetime setting - but you know it is also easy enough to change it up to something else in the future. :Up_to_something:

Get what you love now - life is too short!!

Cushion halos can be found on nearly every antique jewelry website. Depending on the look, they may date to rough time periods, but being able to tell a piece's date isn't the same as looking dated. I vote for getting what you enjoy now. If you decide in a few years time that it isn't a look for you, worry about it then. I understand wanting forever if that's what you're after, but chances are you won't be wearing the same shirts in a few years. If your overall style changes - reset!

Trendy isn't the issue, IMO. Is this for you or for you lady? If your lady has asked for a halo, just get her one or talk to her about why it might not suit her lifestyle, but don't use "too trendy" as a reason to replace her choice with something you deem more classic. You aren't the one wearing it and she won't appreciate your "father knows best" routine. If you can't afford what she wants, then that's something else to talk to her about. But not something to unilaterally decide.

If you are shopping for yourself, here are the main reasons not to get one:

You want to wear your ring 24/7. In other words: make sure it suits your lifestyle. But with the larger melee of a Chriscut halo you might be okay.
You never want to reset your ring EVER and just can't fathom it. If that's how you feel AND you are worried it's too trendy already then you might want to consider that.

Otherwise, don't get full eternity so you can size it (pregnancy and other issues can change your ring sizes). Make sure you get the best halo you can afford for your budget. And read up on how to care for it properly. And enjoy.

great advice!

Thanks all. The ring is for me. It will be my second marriage. My first ring was a pear solitaire. I wanted a pear because my mom had one. I paired it with a 5 stone shared prong 1 ct tw WB. For awhile I have been thinking I wanted a RB solitaire and another 5 stone WB. Just bigger stones on both.
Then I saw the Chrsistopher halo and thought it was beautiful but I had never really thought of something like that. I started thinking that maybe something entirely different from my first set would be symbolic of my much different and much better relationship.
I think halos are trendy right now but agree they are still timeless. Princess Diana's ring for example. So I think, is it something that will stand the test of time for me or would the more classic be better. If this makes any sense, kind of like how (to me anyway) the Cartier love bracelet was much imitated but still a classic. The Tiffany heart charm bracelet, on the other hand, so imitated it doesn't have the same appeal for me anymore. So I was just trying to gauge what will be the "opinion" on halos 10 years from now for example. Even though I agree....it's what you like that counts not what someone else likes!
For further comparison I would be considering a 2-2.5 ct cushion in the halo OR a 1.9ish ct range RB (unless I can get bigger) solitaire with a 1.5 tcw 5 stone WB. Budget is about 20k for the e-ring. My pear was 1.25 but it was long and skinny and people always thought it was bigger. I also want to be sure what I picks looks bigger than what i had before (hey it was over 10 yrs ago, that's ok right?!)
