In our area, the prices are per slice, so I would say it depends on how many people it feeds. I would say 3 pp is about average in the Chicago area, though I think fondant designs are usually an extra dollar a slice.

How much is it per slice? I think that''s an easier way to figure out if it''s overpriced.

Seriously?! The lowest price I''ve seen in NY (for a very simple/plain design) is $9 per slice! And all the way up to the $25 - $30 range.

What area are you in again? I''m in the midwest and am paying 1.50/slice! That''s $225 for my whole cake, includuding two different flavors and some fondant. The average prices I''ve seen were about $2-3/slice.

It depends on the bakery you go thru...I am in Chicago and my cake was around $7.00 a slice--banana split flavored with fondant.

Ditto.

Our cake was (I think) $7.20 per slice, made to serve 95 so $684, plus a $100 delivery charge making it a grand total of $784. We got a 15% discount for booking during their slow month putting it at $666 (creepy!). That was incredibly reasonable for our area (LA), based on the 8 or so other bakeries we visited, and they had by far the best tasting.

Anyway... it depends on a lot of factors. What area are you in? How many people is it serving? Are they delivering it?

Ours was about $4 a slice (3 tiers, 3 different flavors with flavored fillings for each one, french buttercream), fondant was more expensive by I think .75 a slice? Total was $400 or $450 for 125 - I don''t think it mattered how it was decorated, the price remained the same.

Sorry! I should have clarified we are in the suburbs of Chicago, I know within the city they can go much higher.

She''s getting married in Vegas if that makes a difference to you guys...

My cake is costing me just over €500 which I think it pricey enough but they make the most delicious cakes so we went with it. I don''t think $600 is too bad.

Musey - who did you use for your cake? We are currently looking...

Here in LA cakes start about $5 a slice and make their way up from there.
