I had a custom eternity band made in July, anyhow I soon found out that I am more nervous with the exposed girdle so just this Friday I decided to contact someone to recycle my diamonds and make a new band bezel (this is a new design that she wants to create and its a go on my end). Well on Saturday, I went to the zoo then went out to dinner with the family, grocery shopping so no hard work with my hands I dont think. I always take my rings off immediately when I get home, and today (monday) looked down on the ring, and I lost a diamond

So what would you do? would you contact the previous vendor that did your custom band to let them know about the lost diamond workmanship? or just let it go, since I was going to recycle this project for a more durable piece? just wanted to know your thoughts? TIA

It depends; did you NEED all the diamonds from your old band for your project? If so, I''ll drop them an email, and send the ring.
But, I guess it depends on size, quality and cost of replacement too....

If it were me I would decide for myself if I wanted to let it go or not. Then once I had made that decision, no matter which decision I made, I would contact the vendor. Simply becuase you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

I think that your ring should not have lost it''s stone in just over a month so that diamond should not be your loss to bear.

That''s awful! I feel your pain, because I just lost a stone out of my eternity last week. I would contact the vendor to let them know - if you do decide to redo the ring differently, maybe they would work with you on the new, sturdier design ...

I would definitely let the vendor know...

oneandahalfrock - Sally says she can use all my 18 stones to make the ring but I just found out today that I now only have 17 - so I dropped her a convo about it ('I'm thinking she can can still work with it, as the design is a "sprinkling" like affect) so I'll hear back tomorrow, but I don't think the vendor would have charged me to replace the stone though but don't know for sure.

Steel - my decision is to go with Sally on the new work as her quote is more than reasonable because it is a ring design she always wanted to bring to life but didn't have the time to or the customer until now, so I'm going to let it go and probably just let the vendor know, I don't want to have them remake the ring only to have Sally dismantle it.

Vespergirl - I know you feel my pain

, I was just thinking about you too, when this happened. I did emailed the vendor a couple of weeks ago about working on a different design and reusing the diamonds, but the cost was quite more than I could bring myself to changing as I also loved this ring how it was but I had to baby it too much (which was stressing me out louping it everyday too).

Kaleigh - Thank you, I think I will but I think they are probably sick of hearing from me

because I have soo many requests, quotes and you know us PSers with tons of questions...lol

My other thoughts are that I didn't want to inform the vendor to have them replace the diamond and remake the ring, when it was just going to be taken apart anyways to recycle into a new design.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts, I appreciate it very much. DH is fine with whatever I want to do, I was a bit stressed out, about whether or not to let the vendor know about this, because I was just going to send off my ring to Sally and everything would have been all good to go until the loss of the stone.

I meant that I would contact the original designer/vendor to try to get a replacement stone whether or not it matters to you. That way 1) they are informed that that design may have a flaw and 2) why should you be out a stone if they will replace it as a gesture of goodwill. I would not ask that they repair the ring as you plan to remake it; that is plain silly

.

Anyhoo, I see you are going to inform them and let it go.

Best of luck with the new project.

I think you should tell the vendor -- if not for a replacement stone, then at least so they can rework the design if another customer wants a similar design. I think they'd appreciate knowing that the band didn't have as much structural integrity as they may have thought so they don't make the same mistake again.

ETA: cross-post with Steel...she said it better than I did!

Thanks Steel -oh that''s right, just maybe get a replacement stone

perhaps.

Octavia - good point, Thank you!

Me, too!

Oh no... I know the sinking feeling when you look down and see a stone missing!

I am also looking to get a bezel band soon... much more secure and so pretty! I''m sure yours will look beautiful once it''s done, and I agree with the other posters that it would be a good idea to let the vendor know that their design isn''t very durable!

I would let the vendor know. Hopefully, they will offer to replace it for free or at least at a minimal cost. You paid for those diamonds, so in less there was some
damage accidentally done by you, I would want them to replace it. Who knows, you may be able to use the extra diamond for another project.

I would definitely let the vendor know about the lost stone. No matter what you intend to do with your diamonds, they should stand behind their craftsmanship. I hope they offer to replace your stone without you having to ask.

Thank you all! I feel much better, I just sent an email to the vendor.

I did have the sinking stressed out feeling yesterday and feel much better today that DH was ok with whatever I decided to do, and after sending off the email too.

Good luck, I think you did the right thing. Please let us know the outcome? I''m really curious to see your new design, sounds very intriguing!

thanks lyra- I probably won''t get it back until November...

yeah, I don''t even know what it will really look like either, just going with the flow of sprinkling bezels

and some sort of rope twisty paisley..

Hmmnnnnn twisted rope paisley?
31.gif
That sounds so interesting!!

Did you hear anything from the vendor yet? I am sure they will do everything they can to sort this out.

szh07- yes most interesting, and so unlike me to give complete control, but I figure this is a work of art and I really like Sally''s work.

Maisie- yep, just heard back, and they were as usual Steller in their communication and I did just let them know about ring, they wanted to make everything right which I appreciated without me asking. So now its off to Sally and getting reborn again so to speak...lol
