So FH just impulse purchased an 80GB ipod Classic. But he's technologically impaired, so guess who gets figure out how to put all his favorite movies onto the thing?

I've downloaded and uninstalled two programs already and all I got out of both of them put together was a 15 minute clip of the Goonies lol. I'm having serious issues making it work!

Anyone have a video to MPEG converter that they love? Preferably one that's simple enough for him to use too.

I really need help, so anyone that can do so would be much appreciated!

Nebe - I''m not too technologically advanced myself (wow...what an understatement) - - but I thought that you couldn''t add any movies to an iPod unless they were purchased through iTunes??? I believe (I could be totally wrong here) that iTunes movies are specially coded and are the only movie file types that can be uploaded to your iPod...

again...correct me if I''m wrong...

Well, as with anything people have figured out how to get around the restrictions. My friend does this all the time, I''ve asked her for the info on how she does it.

OK, my friend uses HandBrake. Have you tried that one?

Quicktime Pro works as well, but you need to find an intermediary between your DVD and .avi (quicktime "exports" to .avi, but not directly from DVD format). This is a completely legal and supported part of the process. The special file format and restrictions are just to encourage people to spend their money on iTunes, rather than converting what they already own (which is legal).

The only thing that would make it unlawful is if the file you are converting was downloaded illegally.

I''ll try quicktime and if not the handbrake one. Thank you!!

How freaking WEIRD.

I just bought FI an 80 gb ipod today (it''s his b-day tomorrow) and I TOO was having trouble converting the files.

Just so you know, from what I understand, itunes has its own file type for movies (or something like that) and virtually nothing you download on the net will be the right type.
I don''t know if you tried the built in converter under advanced settings, but that''s supposed to work. I tried it for a short file, and it came out with no sound. I tried another one and the sound ended up coming out choppy. How annoying.
