I ran across the site yesterday and have read the majority of the tutorials, just wanted to introduce myself and say how much I appreciate the info provided. Im in the market for approx 1.4-1.6 ct princess vvs f-g color and im sure ill have some questions, for now ill lay low and learn as much as possible. if anyone has leads on a stone matching the description with a good cut feel free to link it up. the majority of what ive seen has a higher table value than whats recommended. thanks

DITTO STORM on the issue of VVS--its such a waste of money unless you are a buying a step cut stone...........i started out with a VVS (and in an Emerald cut) and "upgraded" to a VS2........properly placed inclusions make it a non issue...............the effect on price is huge

We can now directly measure the perfomance of princess cut diamonds in terms of three important and repeatable variables:
Brilliance
Sparkle
Intensity
These terms have been well defined in previous posts and on my website, too.

AGS and Gemex grade princess cuts for light performance using different methods than I use, but the net result "generally" is quite similar. None of us grade poor stones as great ones, thankfully. Top AGS or Gemex diamonds are going to grade at or near the top with the technology I employ.

My old system, the AGA-Cut Class grades have proved very useful in screening for better cuts, but would not be as useful as they once were with the new styles of princess cuts. These newest, high performance princess cuts, have a different layout and facet arrangement than the ones I based the Cut Class charts on, so now I suggest direct assessment with the tools I use, or getting an AGS or Gemex graded princess cut as the way to go forward. (I like my way best, of course

Don''t get too hung up on parameters. Look for diamonds which have measured or calculated performance classifications in addition to their color and clarity. I believe that some AGS 1 or AGS 2 princess cuts "may" have as much or more performance as some graded AGS 0. I won''t promise that I can prove it just yet, but there is a very good chance that some "near miss" stones actually are better than those which got the coveted AGS 0. In time we will see enough of them to know.

Right now, we can grade the light performance of any princess cut. It doesn''t matter which lab report the diamond has. We have an add-on report for light behavior that will give you a ranking of the diamond''s beauty.

Any appraiser who needs this light behavior analysis as an add-on for one of their own clients will get our immediate attention. We hope to see many appraisers offering such services in the coming year or two.
