Hello All!

First of all, I''d like to express how glad I am to have found this website. I''ve done quite a bit of lurking, and have learned a lot, and now I''m ready to ask about a few different options.

For starters, my proposal already happened. It was very impromptu, and now I''m looking for the perfect ring for her. My budget is $4000-6000, with $5000 being the *magic* number. I''d like to get her something right away, so she can *really* feel like she is getting married.

I know she''d like a round solitaire with a sidestone setting. So, here''s what I''ve come up with. Your thoughts are appreciated.

Anyway, here is the setting I''d like to get for her, no matter which stone I end up with:
Sidestone Setting

And, a stone that fits in my budget, that looks gorgeous from the photo:
0.8 VS2 E Ideal

Specs:

Shape: Round
Carat weight: 0.80
Cut: Ideal
Color: E
Clarity: VS2
Certificate: GIA

Depth: 62.2%
Table: 55.0%
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Girdle: Thin to slightly thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 5.93*5.97*3.70

With the setting, and a discount code, it comes to $4696. Any thoughts?

Thanks so much!

Mike

By the way, I have placed the stone on hold, pending PriceScope approval. ;)

Welcome!

The diamond looks potentially very nice, I was just thinking though, although of course you are free to disregard it

, if you dropped the colour to perhaps an F or G, and maybe even the clarity to a clean SI1- of course this is only a suggestion - you may be able to shoot for a full carat or close to it.

Just wanted to throw that out there!

Thanks for your reply! Initially, that was the plan. I kept finding pretty noticeable inclusions, and got a bit discouraged. I had looked at some stones in the $7000-8000 (1.00-1.05 carat) range also, but the one I linked to was the first one that really looked GORGEOUS, even among the more expensive ones.

Does anyone else have any thoughts?

Ladies: Lower clarity and color for a bigger stone?

Mike

I''d keep the cut, drop the color to F or G, keep the clarity and go up a bit in size. I think it will still appear colorless as long as the cut is awesome.

Yeah.. I agree with the cut also. In fact I am also looking for an e-ring (see my other post). I compare two stones side-by-side with same carat but different cut. The cutting really make a BIG difference.

if you are just wanting honest opinions, I''d definately vote for lowering color/clarity for a bigger stone.
