While new introductions are being made please allow me to introduce my lab assistant Chas.

FYI, I have 2 younger sisters named Susan and Amy. Amy is full time with us in the store while Susan is home raising 3 little ones. The youngest of those is Brandon which is Chas' avatar.
1.gif
Chas is married to my sister Susan and is here full time by my side helping me scan and analyse all the new diamonds that come in and is quickly learning the pros/cons in/outs of everything diamond related as he listens to my phone conversations and listens carefully as I give in store presentations (which, shortly will be done on a plasma when we're done renovating). Contrary to most "in-law" relationships Chas and I are 2 peas in a pod and we get along excellently. Working in a store full of women, it is also a relief to have another guy in the store working with me too.

Thanks in advance for the warm welcomes.

Jon, if I ever get laid off here in sillycon valley, wanna adopt me too? I wouldn't mind analyzing stones all day.

...It's gotta beat what I do now, analyzing network packets all day.

get in line, openhelix!

I was here first!

He he, Mara!

Just look at that number of posts

Doesn't it look like a second job already!!!

FYI. This job is not exactly a walk in the park. With the market flooded in "so called" Hearts & Arrows, I have to sift through a lot before I can please the standards of Jon

I'm not complaining but at the same time I am not sitting here twiddiling my thumbs!

Chas, we know you guys do some hard work. Especially when it's such an inexact science. And, of course, the difficult-to-please customer side of the business.

I'm lucky in that I don't deal with people often, mainly machines. But, on average, I examine a few thousand network anomalies A DAY. And I'm on call 24/7. Luckily for you, there's not too many diamond emergencies at 2am.

Hey, I'm closer to NY! Pick me! Pick me! Ooh! Ooh!

Rhino, that's a lovely family, and frankly, when it comes to diamonds that seems to be the best way to trust people and their work...family.

Not all Brother-in-laws get along. You guys are indeed lucky!

If I were family, could I get a teeny tiny 1 carat or so Jubille for my birthday? Pppplease?

I have a question which may be a silly one but I will ask anyway. Who makes the JUBILEE diamond? Is it made like the LUCERE where you go through a certain company to obtain it? I guess my question is, where is Jonathan getting the JUBILEE from? Do other vendors have access to this cut as well?
Just curious if other vendors will be carrying this diamond as well.

OK
I have read the 3 pages of this thread.
One of the goals of this forum is not to promote thyself.

If Rhino is not promoting himself, then I do not know what is.
First we hear about all his hard work, and now above he introduces one of his assistants, who cares!

If you look at the profile of long threads, we have all types responding, consumers, appraisors, vendors, etc. This thread is void of any of the other vendors of PS. I read lots of posts by Robin and Todd (have never bought from them), and they are not promoting themselves! It seems like Rhino is saying that GOG is the only player in town.

If the major posters want to go "goo goo" and "ga ga" over this diamond, it is their right, but, lets stop the self promotion of GOG, OK Rhino.

Baltneu-
People on this board HAVE BEEN ASKING for the very info that Jonathan has posted. A poster here, saw the jubilee on Jonathan's website earlier on and asked about it on the PS board. Turned out that the poster had seen the stone on Jonathan's site that was accidently put on the site, rather than a private link for a client. Jon then came on, said that the stone being on the site was premature and that he would get us the info on it later. Well, this is later. And there's nothing wrong with his staff introducing themselves and him introducing who's who in his shop.

Balt, when did you become a moderator here??? Last I checked Leonid made most of the decisions. And certainly those with thousands more posts than you (or I) have much more claim and right to determine what's approprate and what is not. Anytime you want to stop your complaining about anyone but DI, you are more than welcome to do so... or leave.

Jonathan posted information about a revolution in shaped and square stones, one that most here have been asking about for months! If you're trying to make GOG look bad with your post, you've sorely missed, only making yourself look ignorant and increasingly unwanted.

Don't let the door hit ya...

Then give us the info, period.
If you go to GOG website, he says that the store is going to be closed for renovation. Perhaps he should post it on this site also. Of course not, his advertising belongs on his website not this one. The same goes for introducing his staff, it belongs on his website, not here.

Open-
I am sorry that I did know one of the rules you post-"and certainly those with thousands more posts than you (or I) have much more claim and right to determine what's appropriate and what is not" . Please excuse my lack of seniority.
I am not trying to discredit GOG, they are a top notch vendor, please re-read my post, I just don't like the self promotion, my opinion. If you do not like it, hope you do not mind my quoting you "don't let the door hit ya"

Anyway, who died and made you king (or queen).

Jon likes to walk that line with a sort of "gee-whiz I didn't mean anything by it" grin the whole time. Leonid is the final arbiter, and this may go the same way as Jon's Queen of Hearts intro.

That being said, it's sort of like the model who says "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful!" Jon has the goods, the gadgets, and a great website. Every time he posts it could be construed as self-promotion, but most of the promotion of Jon is by others!

Jonathan made a very educational post. He is a very progressive Jeweler, it seems he takes huge risks and he has developed a business model on providing a vast amount of information,

If any other jeweler wants to sell Jubilee I am sure they can figure out who to contact and who sells it and partake in the discussion.

Who and what is GCAL and why arent they gia or ags certed?
Why should we trust them to be as accurate as gia and ags?
-----------

GCAL is Donald Palmieri's operation. He's an appraiser of note, known for professional reports with strict grading.

It's probably a good Q. But most advertising also has a grain of info in it. This one has a stack of info included - amd little of anything else. They don't say "buy from me" - GOG does not have exclusive distribution of this cut, right? Does he ?

Not sure I want to live again in a world without adds

Hello again,

I asked a little while ago but did not get a response, does Good Old Gold own this particular cut? Can anyone answer this question. The reason is, it seems his inventory is going to go quickly. Who is the company that distributes this beautiful stone? I guess I am inquiring for more information on how to purchase if other than Good Old Gold.

Thanks

I believe the cutter is Cary Horowitz, doing a Google search brings up Rama Manufacturing/Horowitz and Atlas having booths at industry tradeshows. Do not know who brokers the Jubilee. I saw a web site once for Atlas (Atlas Group I believe) but can not find the URL now.

He does not indicate that his store will not be functional at all during the renovation, he indicates that the physical store will be closed to the public. Meaning that people cannot walk in off the street only to inhale dust and get clobbered by falling beams. However, Jon indicates that they are going to be available through e-mail and phone and to ship stones and answer questions. I just don't understand what it is from his posts that you consider self promotion when we asked for the info.

Wink can get the regent which is from the same outfit I have no reason to believe that he could not get these also.
But like the regent it will likely be in short supply at first.
It takes a while for diamonds to be cut and move thru the system to the dealers.
By having these gradded by GCAL he was more than likely able to get them for sale weeks quicker than going with the big 2 so others may take longer if others are having gia or ags grade them.

Thanks Richard
I figured it had to be someone with a good reputation but with the strict preference for ags and gia around here it had to be asked.
I figure time was the reason he went with them over the big 2 as I stated in an above post.

Luvmysparklies is RIGHT. WE asked, and pretty darn vehemently too! Poor Jonathan has been busy working and trying to put this together, and STILL has time to come on the site and discuss the techincal aspects of this new stone.

If someone new comes on a site and says, I cut stones, buy from me there are several things wrong with that. One, no credibility, no history, no known repuation amoung this forum. Two, they are most likely here to just drum up business NOT help others. Three, they usualy include NO information that is different, insightful or helpful. Jonathan has introduced a new stone to us, AND has given us SO MUCH new information to digest.

Like anything in Media, movies, ads, TV, you take it all in and extract the things you need and like. I HATE stupid ads, but sometimes, you think, "hey I think so and so sells those things!" and you extract what you need, ignore the rest. Just like this site. It may have ads on it. You think this site is free and runs itself? Well, people PAY to have some place to ALLOW us all to be here and sicuss in the most open and fair forum of diamonds out there. Try other sites. Good luck!

But as such, don't complain about hearing ads (if that's what you think this post is), because without ads, your TV set would broadcast government stations with very little to learn. I personally would like some ads, especially since being in the heart of the Diamond district I STILL learn ten times more from Price Scope than any of the vendors out there!

I appreciate your attempted adherence to the "rules" but they are not necessary, as Leonid has final say, and I would be VERY VERY upset if this post was considered offensive, as many of us here considered if for all the information it provided, as an inofrmative look at a new stone.

I have to disagree here. PBS? BBC? Not BBC America but the real "Aunty Beeb". The BBC is paid for by the people of the UK via a license fee and is somewhat state run.

This gave me a grin. ...so true.

Anyway, this stone does look amazing. I would love to see how it should be set.

Also & a bit OT, why do you have to be closed during renovation? The only reason I can see is possibly for security. But, the contractor's job is alway easier if the business closes. There exists no reason to make the contractor's job easier.

Cary Horowitz is the man bringing this stone to life. Jonathon wisely bought the entire first run and will probably be the only vendor allowed to sell them on the internet.

There will be others of us who will carry them for our local markets, when they become available. This is an incredible stone and it will be hightly sought after, but it will take time to bring it into full production and availability.

As is often the case, those smart enough to get there first with enough foresite and resources are those who get in the ground floor position. I applaud Jonathon for doing so. (And really wish I had beat him to the punch!) Good job Jonathon!

Wink

P.S. Another reason why GIA may not be being used for their paper is that they will insist on using some strange name like "modified square brilliant cut" rather than using the name given to this beautiful new cut by the creators of the design.

Someone just signed up to PS.com under the name "Cary" and listed Cary & Horowitz as their company. Hmmm...

Wink, as a quick aside, I just wanted to say that it's nice to see you over here. Perhaps we can get even more traffic over to the Colored Stones area.
