Interview for Director Position Advice

I have an interview this afternoon (they immediately wanted to meet today after seeing my resume and talking with me on the phone). It is for a director position that has a great salary (50k compared to 15/hr and benefits and a 5 minute commute (yes you read that correctly!) I REALLY want this job and know I am extremely qualified! However, I have never worked in such a high position and was wondering if anyone has any advice for me. I currently lead a team of workers but it's not in my job title, it's more of a role I stepped into as I grew in my job. Anyways, advice! Please and thank you all so much for reading!!!

The title means nothing. What matters is that it's a position you're qualified for and capable of doing and doing well. Remember that.

Well first of all congrats on getting the interview... Whether that's your title or not, it's what you do so might as well be your job title.

Look they read your resume, talked to you on the phone and really want to meet with you... So the proof is there, now go in with confidence.. Have you researched the company?? I would do that before going in.. But biggest thing, is go in with self confidence....

The first few sentences of your post are super positive... The last few were self doubting. I so get that but don't want you going in with that mind set...

Congrats! The same thing recently happened to me. I knew I was qualified, sent my resume, and had an interview with the regional operator the same day! I, too, didn't have the direct managerial experience, but I was a department manager...it so happened my department only had one person. Me. I still was able to speak about my job as a role model, the times I was a leader, and how those skills translated to what I wanted to do.
Show them how you have so much experience doing the other tasks of the job that if they pick you, it will be an easy transition. If you are eager to learn, they will see that as well. A great personality can often trump a stellar resume.

Congrats! As HH says, titles mean nothing. You say you are currently leading a team, so you are qualified for a role "officially" being the boss of others and running things.

The most important thing I've taken away from my recent job search is that enthusiasm really does get you places. Research the heck out of that company, why you think they're great, and most importantly what things you value that this company values and why that makes for such a good fit. People love to see that you really want to work for the employer they're working for and that you have reasons to back it up.

Just thought I'd give an update on how it went. I was obviously nervous and I think he could tell, oh well. I was honest, told him I could do the job and that if he hired me he wouldn't regret it. He asked how much I currently make and I told him and mentioned my husband was laid off 2 months ago so I NEED the job and for that is one of many reasons he can be guaranteed I will work my @$$ off for him. I was adamant that I knew what I was doing, knew how to lead people and that he wasn't going to find anyone more qualified than I am. He mentioned that he was interviewing 10-15 people and that he would probably call me back for a second interview but who really knows for sure. I guess all I can do now is hope and wait Oh and write a thank you letter!!
