So I''ve been looking for a ~1 ct. Asscher for weeks now, and I can''t seem to find the right one. I''m getting frustrated with poor image quality, lack of available GIA certificates, and costs with bringing in stones for further evaluation. Can anyone give me a detailed analysis of the images below?

Thanks,

It's not very detailed but here goes: Me No Likey.

But honestly, I don't know how to pick asschers from pictures OR idealscopes. Only with my own eyes, in person, in motion.

It's POSSIBLE either of those stones would look "kickin" in PERSON. Are you near any vendors that carry asschers? Have you ever seen one in person? Is the stone shape your choice or hers?

I think asschers are BY FAR the hardest stone to pick & for that you have my sympathies! Good Luck!!!

ETA: I think I've figured out SOME details

#1 ... symmetry is very wonky. The cut corners are not even, nor at the same angles!!!
the steps don't look even and there's not an even distribution of red & black that would indicate a nice contrast pattern in real life.

#2 ... very dark large shadow area looks grim. No even distribution of red & black as described above.

I am a neophyte when it comes to asschers, but even knowing not much in comparison to people like strm, that IS makes me think ''meh.'' Nuh uh. The glaring dark area doesn''t look appealing - it seems like asscher IS pictures with more of a distribution of red, white, and black areas turn out to me much more beautiful and lively stones. But that''s just my take.

both are woofey
1st one has optical symetry issues, patterns arent complete and even.
2nd stone has a lot of leakage thru the bottom most step facets which is bad news.(center)

btw good old gold will bring 2 in for free and takes great pictures.

I wouldn''t go with either. The entire drop of the first one is too dark, and I don''t like the black "square" in the second one. My old asscher had a pattern like that, and it annoyed me until I upgraded to my current asscher. Keep looking until you find one with better patterns.

So what exactly does one look for in an Ideal-Scope image for an Asscher?! Dark red, pink, black? Can anyone post the Ideal-Scope images of a well-cut Asscher stone and then point out the important things to note? I think this would beneficial to others as well...

Thanks,

IS doesnt work that well on asschers the real pictures are more informative ASET is the best tool for them.

Storm, do you have the ASET of a (near) perfect Asscher? Can you also intepret the colours and what they do?

Thanks Storm. Very helpful. Is this stored away somewhere where a newbie can access this easily rather than through a search function?

HEYYYYYY!!!!

Where the HECK are those "ideal cut square emeralds" we''ve been promised??????? We''ve been waiting on them since I was first starting to look for an e-stone back in MAY of 2005. WHAT is the freakin HOLD UP ALREADY????

This is my infamous drop asscher model that everyone has seen a dozen times.
The crown facets should show a mix of blue, green and red, some red or green around the outer table helps brighten the stone up in larger sizes compared to those without it.
(large asschers can look like they have too big of dark zones without it, smaller stones it helps the patterns stand out more without it)
Then the patterns under the table are formed by red(prefered) and green(can be ok but the center should be red) under the table alternating with black and blue.

Storm,
Any nice ASET for an asscher without the drop asscher pattern? I find myself not liking them no matter how hard I try.

wide step, my favorite.
These aren''t common because they have to be pretty precisely cut to get the pattern.
kinda stinks that Paul has decided not too cut asschers cuz he could pull these off on a consistent basis.

here is the narrow step, I should really redo this one to make it more RA like.
The drop style is the most common because it keeps the most weight.
