These average numbers looks good to me. Girdle reading from the Sarin is a little thick, a shallower pav angle on the Sarin than allowed for Ex grade by GIA.
The problem is that this is an EGL stone, which I am a little leary about; however, I have had an EGL in the past that was beautiful. As one PS member says, buy the stone, not the paper.
So I am considering going this route because I can get much more carat for my money, and I am not obsessed with clarity if the cut, color, and "sparkle" of the stone are excellent. If I don''t go EGL, I will end up with a 1.20-1.25 ct diamond. I liked this one because I know EGL is most lenient on color, and this D instills some confidence that it will at least be an F or G (which is what I would get in a GIA stone for my budget).
Specs are:
D, 1.60ct, SI2, Ex symmetry, Ex polish
Nearly eyeclean, slight feather if you look really hard (might be able to hide under the prong?)
Medium girdle
No fluoro
Depth: 61.3%
Width: 57%
Crown height: 15%
Pavillion depth: 43%
I know I am going out on a limb with an EGL and a SI2, but I thought it might be worth ordering and returning if necessary. If it is beautiful, no one will know the difference...
There will be variance in Sarin report, due to calibration, etc...
Could be a good performer, is it possible to get an Idealscope image and post it here. The feather best to have it check if it is structurally sound. Some might not be at that clarity level.
Sounds like you have done your research. There is definitely nothing wrong with EGL stones, as long as the buyer is aware the grading may be more lenient. You understand that and searched accordingly. I, too, would be a little leary about the SI2 clarity grade, but as long as you will have time to examine the diamond carefully within the return period, you have little to lose.
There is often variation with Sarin numbers for various reasons, this is nothing to worry about, I would suggest if you like the diamond to make the sale final on it checking out to your satisfaction with an independant appraisal. Here is a tool you can use to find an appraiser in your area. They can also check out the feather for you, these are not always durability issues.
I''m not enough of an expert to comment on the quality of the stone, but I have a comment. I have a GIA diamond in my ering and my friend just got an EGL, D, SI1. The color turned out to be correct (according to the appraiser), but the clarity was off. There is a slightly visible white inclusion -most of which was covered by a prong and you have to look really closely to find it. I''m in the market for another diamond now, and will buy EGL. In my opinion, as long as the specs look good, I wouldn''t hesitate to buy EGL. Good luck with your purchase!
