I've been lurking around ps for a while now and have recently made a purchase off the internet. The purpose of my post is to provide information for anyone in Singapore who is intending or interested in doing the same.
Like others before me, I did my homework and scouted the local B&Ms before deciding that the internet retailers offered a wider variety and of course, more competitive pricing.
After sifting through the available diamonds, I decided upon a 0.41 F VS2 ACA offered by Whiteflash and made enquries via email for additional information (Sarin and Idealscope). Once I was satisfied with my choice and mounting, I wired payment over via DBS. Additional charges incurred were USD61 for FEDEX international shipping, and SGD45 for both TT and agent bank charges.
I was given a tracking number which I used to check on my shipment (one too many times I may add
). The entire package arrived in 3 days and I was able to present it to a much delighted person. Unfortunately I had misjudged the size of the ring and it had turned out too large.
The very next day, I went down to Nanyang Gemological Institute at Shaw Centre to have it appraised. I opted for a verbal assessment for SGD30 and the person, Mr Zeng was able to give a fairly accurate one when I compared it with the AGS cert. He also helpfully recommended a nearby jeweller(Queens at Lucky Plaza on the first floor) who would be able to resize the ring although he warned me that there might be a line after the alteration.
It was therefore a pleasant surprise when the lady assured me that the line would not be visible, which I found to be true when I collected it half an hour later.
Hope this has been informative.
