Before I started looking into the possibility of ordering a stone online, everything I read and everyone I talked to said that I would be foolish not to try and haggle and negotiate a lower price. Now that I''m considering going the Internet route, I''m a little confused. What do the online prices indicate and are they built assuming some haggling will go on? Are they targets with room for manuevering or are those the absolute set prices? Granted, I''m really about to fully embark on the search in general so I''m still trying to get a good feel on what diamonds should cost what price whether it''s online or not, but if I knew what the online prices indicate (such as those that I''ve seen using the search on this site) it would really help my research for both online and brick-and-mortar shopping.

Thanks

Welcome to pricescope.

You can search here for this topic, on this board...others have asked it, too.

I think the prices aren''t very flexible. No harm in trying. By and large, the listed prices are the ones you''re going to be expected to pay.

Best wishes, and good shopping!

If the stone is on Multiple listing, most vendors will match the lowest price. Also most give a pricescope discount if you ask for it. You might be able to negotiate a bit, depending on their cost for the stone. No harm in trying.
Also, some vendors offer some extra perks. I would advise that you not buy a drop shipped stone. Pay the small amount extra to have the stone sent to the vendor by the dealer for inspection then have them call you to discuss it with you.
A dealer is more likely to be honest with the vendor if he knows that the vendor will actually see the stone before the customer gets it. The very reliable vendors on Pricescope will be unlikely to ship out a stone that has a problem because it is a costly process to have rings shipped back and forth and they value their reputation. Also many vendors have excellent relationships with the diamond dealerswho will be unlikely to send them a stone that they feel has problems.
Look into the extras some of the vendors offer--one free shipping, having the stone sent to an accredited appraiser of your choice before you pay, Lifetime full price trade-in, buy back, etc.
I bought my ring from Whiteflash and was very pleased with the service and the ring. They offer all the above mentioned features as do several other vendors on this site who also have excellent reputations.
Good luck.

I also had a great experience purchasing my fiance's engagement ring from Whiteflash over the internet. It would have cost me a lot more to buy the same quality diamond at a B&M store. I even looked at Tiffany's before I made my purchase and the diamond they were trying to sell me had a HCA score of 2.3 compared to the one I bought from WF that was a 1.0 on the HCA.

My avatar is the actual diamond I bought from WF and that pic is taken with a normal pocket digital camera.
