My e-ring cost almost $6K and my fiance does not believe it is worth enough to be insured, although I''m not quite sure how much it would cost for insurance. I''m guessing around $100, but we''d also have to get it appraised. I''m curious to see if there are people out there who have chosen not to insure for similar reasons. At what value would you definitely decide to insure?

My e-ring appraises at $9k and the insurance premium is $175/year(Jewelers Mutual). The rates were different from region to region. Unfortunately, my region was one of the most expensive.

I MUST have insurance for peace of mind. It seems like your finace spent a good amount of money on your ring and I think it's definitely worth insuring.

you are a dumbarton.

This seems to be a very popular subject as of late. Have you read the posts regarding Chubb insurance? Lots of info there.
BTW, do you have home owner's insurance? Why not just ask your insur. carrier what are their premiums for a valuable articles policy? Start from there to get an idea of what the rates are. If you read these threads on insurance, I'm sure you'll get an idea of why some members here think that it's worthwhile to insure. IMO, $6k ain't no chump change.
