My Fiancé and I are moving and he is going to switch insurance companies. We are currently living in an apartment until I''m finished with my second degree. I just want to know what provides the best coverage. Is it better for my ring to be on a separate rider or can my ring go under the jewelry cat.? I''m so clueless. Thanks for your help in advance!

Depending on the value of your ring, regular insurance (home owner''s) will not cover it a 100%. I think it''s better to have a separate rider, this way you have an appropriate coverage, and no matter where you move, your ring is insured. Jeweler''s Mutual is good. You may be able to get a separate rider through your home owner''s. I did that through Traveler''s.

There are many ways to do this and the two you suggested are pretty common. However, there is another option. There are companies that will sell you a jewelery policy that covers only the ring. I have one of those through Jeweler''s Mutual. Their rates are pretty good (~1% of the appraised value) and very easy to deal with. However, you can also just get a rider on your current insurance, just be careful to know what they will and won''t cover. Do they cover loss and damage? Will they cover it if it falls down the drain? What about a chipped stone? For more info you can search here on PS for insurance and you''ll get all the info you need.

Thanks for your help!
