I just contacted a Chubb agent that was listed on their website in my area. When I asked him about jewelry ins. He suggested I use my home owners. I thought it was better to use something like Chubb. Has that changed? I will be picking my new pendant up Tues. and wanted to get it covered before I have it. I have my E/R with my h/o policy, but thought I would change that over along with a few other things that I have to get new appraisals on. Is there a better company to go with? Or should I just use my H/O?

Thanks for any help.

Dear CWJ,

There are pockets of exceptions...but I think it's developed that the easiest remaining way to get Chubb stand alone is by going through Touchstone, on the basis that you've spent $10K or more.

See here for more...

Hi RG,
Thanks for your reply! I used your link and read the thread. I do have over 10,000.00 to insure, not the pendant but my e/r and then the pendant purchase price was around 5300.00. I would also like to add another ring and a pair of studs. Which insurance co would u suggest, JM or Chibbb? I would rather have a cash payout than replace with like kind because I would want to use my own choice of jeweler.
Thanks so much for the help,

I had the same problem calling the agents around here. If you call Chubb directly you might be able to find someone to help you.

CWJ,

I'd get a quote from both, for starters.

If your only critical juncture is being able to shop where you want, JM I think let's you do that...so the premium you pay for Chubb may not get you the value you want. But...if you want to take a fresh start, get cash, and consider starting over...Chubb ostensibly gives you more options, regardless of what you think you want now....from what I hear.

Try to determine what premium you'd have to pay for more options. It may or may not be worth it.

P.S. to Legacy girl...asking Chubb can't hurt...but it didn't help me, and I don't think anyone's reported success with that before, either. Fortunately, there IS Touchstone...and a few outliers who it seems will do this, given reaching a certain threshold (which seems to be near $10K, as reported).

Thanks for all the advice! I am going to contact both, JM and Chubb. If Chubb only writes 10,000. and over first. I will have to get a updated appraisal on my E/R and insure that first and then add the pendant and others. That may be the factor that pushes me to JM. Why cant this be easy?
