How long should you wait before making a claim for a piece of jewelry? My friend lost her eternity band last Sunday. She wasn't sure if it fell in her car, shopping bags, the home, ect..so she's been frantically looking for it. She doesn't want to make a claim too soon just in case she's wrong. I told her since she's been looking for this ring since last Sunday night, I think it's time to call it in if that's what she wants to do.

Any btdt? How long did you wait?

Thx! :wavey:

I think a week is long enough... Even if it pops up somewhere in a month, you never know. And I don't know if the insurance company would question why it took so long to make a claim... I had a diamond ring stolen and I reported it THAT DAY. Of course, I knew it was stolen because my wallet was gone too.

Thanks Tuckins!

Yes if it were stolen, I'm pretty sure she would have made a claim asap and a police report. It's been a very busy week for her and she told me she wanted to make sure she looked everywhere before calling a claim in.

It varies insurance company to company.
Some want you to report it as soon you notice its gone others want you to exhaust all means of looking for it first.
She should call her agent for advice.

Thanks Karl!
