Instagram - account users locking their posts down?

Just noticed that a few of the Instagram people I browse (while not logged in because I don't need another password to forget!) seem to restrict viewing of their posts to people logged in only - so I can see the 'wallpaper' but I can't click to enlarge anything.

I've noticed Gemconcepts and Distinctive Gem (AV/Rhino) do it out of the jewellery people I look at (although I haven't checked any more).

Is this a new thing? Have Instagram started pushing people to lock down their accounts more and drive IG membership up?

I'm not sure I'm happy about it, lol.

Maybe being logged in reveals your identity, or contact information, to the account holder.

Many businesses WANT, and profit from, capturing your personal info.

I am rarely on IG these days but I think (and I could be wrong) that one always has to be logged on to see everything on IG. I don't think that is a new rule but again I could be wrong.

I used to be able to go on without an account but now I get that annoying box asking me to log in. I might actually make an account but I resent having to...I just want to look. Ugh. I don't need/want anymore accounts or passwords to keep track of.
