Inspiration for things to do at home

I'm definitely getting cabin fever after being at home for almost 3 months now. Any ideas for inspiration on things to do?

I currently spend most of my time working, cooking, eating, doing chores, watching TV, and sleeping. I don't have kids so I'm pretty bored. I also work out and read, but don't have any house hobbies and am trying to limit computer time. My friends and family are in the same boat, which is interesting as we often don't have anything to talk about since nothing is happening. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Normally, I'm someone who enjoys exploring new places, traveling, trying new restaurants, and spending time with family/friends. I don't foresee being able to do any of that for a long time due to concerns with COVID-19 even if places open up.

I don’t know if you can knit? I hadn’t for years but since the lockdown I’ve knitted 2 jumpers! YouTube is great for tips and reminders how to do it. I also restrung a bead bracelet and that got me keen to make some jewellery- I’m awaiting delivery of some inexpensive pearls that I’m going to experiment with, maybe using bright coloured silk.

I've also been doing a lot of beading while watching TV/movies. It makes me feel (a little) productive and they make fun gifts to send out to friends/family to let them know I am thinking of them.

Do you have a garden? I have been doing lots outside, including removing some shrubs to make way for other things or remove crowding where they have got too big.

My job list this coming week includes clipping hedges, transplanting a couple of ferns in a very ferny area to a couple of my empty pots at the front of the house, and the endless weeding.

Class Central has free classes, including many Ivy League courses,
The Yale course 'The Science of Well-Being' is one of the most popular.

Do you have any large parks or forest preserves near your home? We go to a bird sanctuary for walks and it is nice to be outdoors and enjoying nature.

scrapbooking, organizing digital and printed photographs, brain games like Soduku or online Jeopardy, watching all 7 seasons of West Wing ...

I have been keeping busy with needlepoint and loving it! I find it more relaxing than cross stitch because I am not counting squares and following a pattern. The hand painted canvases are more expensive, but make stitching such a joy! Do you enjoy stitching at all?

I started to cross stitch, and have started making the major component of this year's Christmas/Season's Greetings cards that involved origami.

I tried to learn to play the clarinet again last September 2019 when I started to work part time from home, and am glad to have upgraded my instrument from a cheapo plastic student one to a wooden professional one shortly before lockdown, as it is a joy to practice and play.

I have been participating in virtual choir practices and socials with other choir members.

I can still volunteer at a cat sanctuary for a couple of hours once a week as it is considered as essential.

I have also started to plan for camping holidays in Europe, and a postponed trip to Vancouver to visit my folks via Tucson. :Up_to_something:

The garden is being renovated so plenty of plant potting to do.

The big one coming up is to sort out the garage, to decide what to keep and moved to the new shed in the garden, and what to ditch or sell, so that it can be dismantled to make way for the campervan/RV that is due in late September 2020. Not looking forward to this at all as I am a bit of a hoarder, and there are boxes in there that I have yet to open since I relocated to my current home in 2006!

I am revising my French (I studied French in the hope to work in France/Belgium back in the early 00's) in readiness to go camping in France as soon as I feel sufficiently safe to do so.

Plenty more to sort out inside the house if lockdown continues to the extent that I would not enjoy going out, like going to pubs and restaurants etc...

I guess I am not easily bored as I usually have a lot on the go (don't watch much TV, however, I have an online subscription for a daily newspaper that I read).

If I have time to spare, I sleep!

DK :))

@dk168 .......via Tuscon. Can't think why? :Up_to_something:

I have been gardening, propagating more things from seed. Painting benches and decking, DIY projects, free GIA courses, puzzles, bling projects (:Up_to_something:), daily exercise, listening to podcasts/ free webinars.

I reckoned I may not want to fly anywhere until next year, and thought about ways to make the duty call less of a chore, so making a 2-destination trip makes sense.

My birthday is usually a few days after Tucson, so I thought I could sneak into Tucson before visiting my folks. :Up_to_something:

I have already booked my hotels for overnight in Vancouver and during Tucson, fully refundable, of course!

I'm finishing my last two classes to (hopefully) graduate next month with my degree in computer science. I also try to grow a veggie garden from seed every year. This year has been better than most so I may actually get some veggies (so long as i can get some of my starts in the planters that were delivered and the rest tolerate pots until my quarter is over!

If I had the energy, I have been wanting to do a bunch of meal prep so I have a freezer full of meals for times I am super busy or sick. (Oh, the irony... Can't make meals for when I am sick because I am still recovering from being sick!) Lots of work out in the garden -- weeding, pruning lots, edging the yard, digging out the sprinkler system that is broken, putting in the new pipes so the system works again, digging out behind the retaining wall to get ready to replace it, replacing the tipped over brick side to one garden area with the garden blocks I picked up last summer. Also have lots to do around the house like finishing replacing the back stairs, replacing the front porch, replacing much of the upper deck, going through everything to donate what I don't need, organizing better (added a dresser and some book cases last year and haven't reorganized to best make use of them all), pressure washing many things, cleaning various walls in hopes of maybe painting later, cutting a replacement leg for the "new" couch (had it for 11 years now so maybe we shouldn't call it new...), and whatever else I am forgetting.

On the more fun side, I have a keyboard downstairs that hasn't been touched in a long time. Been wanting to play it some. I also wanted to teach myself how to knit a scarf for winter. (Gave my yarn away so would need to order some.) I keep being tempted to try the diamond painting thing I see ads for. (not real diamonds, but looks sort of fun). I used to love doing puzzles and keep meaning to figure out how to do them without cats stealing the pieces.

I have a young child, and am supposed to be working from home -- which more or less engulfs 6:30 am-10 pm.

But i would love to have the opportunity to sort through the stuff in the house. It would be really nice to be able to toss out all the random junk we seem to accumulate.
