Hi,

Can someone please help me with which loupe to purchase to read the inscription on the diamond? I hear 30x is the best way to go. Which loupe will work best for this purpose?

Check Amazon for a 20X loupe.

I got this one from amazon: TabStore DBPower® 30X 60X LED Lighted Eye Loupe. I can't see the inscription on mine at 30x since it's clear. At 60x, with the light hitting it at the right angle, it's readable.

If you have patience and the right amount of light at the right angle, you could read the girdle inscription even with a 10x, I have Bosch n lamb 10x loupe, I have to have the light bounce off just right and can read 2-3 numbers at a time. Eyes get pretty strained after time lol. Just an idea if you wanted to go the cheap route if you already have a loupe.

Hi,

Thank you for the reply! I forget to mention I am in Canada. And Amazon.com does not ship here. Could someone point me to a specific one that works well to see a color less inscription on a tiny girdle?

Thank you!

I bought my 20x and 30x at local flea market for $5.00 each

ebay

Why not take it to a local jewelry store and ask for them to check with one of their scopes. Most places will do it without an issue.

Do you have an iPhone? I used this one and it works really well. You can even take pictures to save for insurance purposes!

I hope that link works. You can search "iphone 5 loupe" on eBay and get the same results. I agree with the poster above- you can read the inscription with a 30x loupe pretty easily. Just make sure you have good full spectrum lighting.

Hi guys,

Just an update.

I have tried combining 10X and 40X loupe together and looking through it. I finally found the inscription. However, it is so microscopic that it is incredibly hard to read. I can possibly tell 4 out of the many numbers as they become a smudge or a blur.

If I cant read it at 50X zoom, maybe I need 100X? The girdle is thin and it is 1 carat diamond.

That said, I doubt 30X will be of any help. I will try the iPhone method you mentioned a shot. I tried putting the 50X near the iPhone lens to see if I can do a digital zoom on it, I almost got a few numbers but extremely blurry.

Maybe the method you showed will work.

Any other thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Reason I dont want a jeweler, is because I want a peace of mind of seeing it myself prior to going to any store and letting anyone else touch it. OCD.

Most jewelers will let you look through their microscopes. I have them find it first and then show me where to look.

When I wasn't able to read an inscription with a 30X loupe I took mine to a jeweler. They were able to read it under 40X magnification, but not easily. They read the inscription off to me and I compared it to the documentation.

I bought one a few months back, I will check when I get home the name and power and post for you
