Inscribing the outside of a ring

If you have a plain pink gold or mixed platinum with pink gold rim, can a jewellery inscribe the top with full width symbol like a signet ring? Lots of Jewellers say they won`t.

I had my daughter''s name and birthday engraved on the outside of a ring. I am sure they could engrave anything you wanted at a price.

I think it depends where you ask and how wide the ring is. When I''ve checked recently, every place on the internet I asked said no, unless the band was at least 5mm wide and even then the didn''t really want to do it. However, I''ve spoken w/Michael E about it and he can send it out to be done, and Sally at Heart of Water on Etsy will do it as well..I''m not sure if either have width requirements. I asked about a 4mm band.

Oh-I didn''t catch the part about a symbol like a signet ring..I''d still check w/the 2 above anyway, and maybe others have more suggestions.
