I have been looking for radiant cut diamond for the new e-ring that my fiance wants to buy me. Our budget is not too high, around 4500 for the setting and diamond and I would rather a setting with diamonds than one without. I found several settings that I like from one website ranging from about $970-1400, my favorite being $1115. I know this is a lot of information but here are a few diamonds I have seen. I''ve looked at the AGA chart for optimal proportions, which of these should I ask for more information including a sarin report and crown angle/percentage?

Can you get any ideal-scope images?

Be careful of thin on girdles of radiants - it may be OK - but is the pro appraisers domain.

I would be happier if the EGL is EGL USA, not O''seas EGL.

Expect EGL to be a little better pricing than GIA.

Is there anything in the search by Cut Quality here on Pricescope - uper right?

I found a few of them using the cut quality search. I''m just trying to narrow down which ones to get more info on based on the limited specs I''ve seen about these stones so far. I will try to get idea scope images since most if not all of these are from whiteflash.

#1 has the best numbers as far as specs (could possibly be an AGA 1A if you find out the crown height). The only concern I have is since it''s an EGL cert, it may be actually a H, SI1. You might want to have the vendor take a look at it to make sure the color isn''t too low. Color is more visible on fancy shapes. If you decide you like this stone, definitely send it to an appraiser to verify the color and clarity.

#2, #3, and #5 are all about equal in terms of specs, so you would have to have the vendor or an appraiser or look at them yourself in order to see which one you would like the best. They will likely all look very different from each other although on paper they appear to be similar. Also, #2 and #3 will appear more square and #5 will appear more rectangular.

#4 I would rule out altogether. It has an EGL cert which could mean it''s an I, SI2, The price is low to reflect this, but I personally would not buy an I colored radiant.

So, in my opinion the stones that deserve further investigation are #1, #2, #3, and #5.

Coda,
thank you. That is exactly what I wanted to know.

small update, I found out specs on the third and first diamond. The first diamond they said the manufacturer said it''s a beautiful stone and appears white, it should be no problem to set it in platinum. When the crown %, it gets a 2B grade from AGA. The manufacturer saud the third diamond is beautful and looks like a vs1 and is eye clean. It''s only 0.80 carats but with the crown % it gets a 1B from AGA. I think I will request sarins and actual pics of the third one, It sounds very promising and the price is very good. I haven''t found out any other info for the other two stones because I was told this was all that''s available so I''m not sure if the other diamonds are on hold or they couldn''t contact the manufacturer.

My suggestion is not LOOK at as many of these stones as you can. I almost bought a 1B graded stone until we SAW it and decided it was sad, lifeless and dull...We ended up with a 2A we love...

SEE as many radiants as you can to be able to differentiate what you are seeing and how they all compare.

Numbers alone will tell you nothing, I am sorry to say. Unlike rounds they are more complex and right now, no one can tell you what EXACT numbers are required for a perfect stone, even including everyone''s different taste. SEE THEM IF YOU CAN!!!

Good luck and let us know which one "speaks to you"...

My suggestion on the two diamonds you like the best, have them sent to an appraiser local to you. If possible, go to the appraiser''s office and take a look at both stones. Nicrez is correct, numbers don''t tell the whole story. They only rule out some stones. Neither of these stones can be ruled out by the numbers, so only by looking at them will you be able to rule one or the other out. Of course the ideal is to go around to different jewelry stores looking at as many radiants as possible, but I realize that''s not always possible. My husband dislikes jewelry and jewelry stores, so he would not traipse around to any stores with me. And I didn''t want to do that process by myself. So, I ended up buying online, and I got lucky with the very first stone I got. Since I have received my stone, I did look at other radiants in jewelry stores, and to me, mine is far and above anything else I''ve seen. Hopefully, you will have the same experience if you do end up purchasing online.

I can only hope that I have a similar experience.

we ordered the setting, it should be here tomorrow.

No new info on the diamond front so the setting will be sent w/o the head.

Beautiful setting! Did you also order that from WhiteFlash?

Thanks, I love antique looking jewelry. No the setting came from diamondsonweb.com, I sent the pic to whiteflash but it would take longer and cost more for them to custom mae it so we ordered it from DoW.

the setting is here!!!! It''s so gorgeous and I love the weight of it.

New Setting 1

New Setting 2

New Setting 3

I was a little worried that the setting would be too wide on my stubby fingers, but it looks great to me.

That''s a lovely setting-
One word of caution- you may need to change the head of the setting depending on which diamond you buy.

as you may notice, the diamonds you are lookng at have different dimensions.
The ring you have chosen has a head which is quite integral to the design.

Itr would really suck to buy a stone then find out the ring won''t take the stone you''ve chosen.

I agree with those saying that the numbers can not tell you what you need to know.

I disagree with idealscope images for radiant cut diamonds- good digital photos will tell you far more. One thing I can tell you from the numbers- these stones will have different personalities due to their different shapes- and digital photos will at least point that out.

Good Luck!

Can't believe you passed those numbers through Excel !!!!

The setting is made for a square stone or a round... (second what David from Diamondsbylauren says above).

The radiants No. #2 and #3 you have selected are square and they should fit the settg off the bat because of that... the others are square-ish (about 1.2:1 L/W), not square but not very "long" either - so they might fit. You need to talk with the jeweler who will set the stone for this.

Were you looking for a square shape from the start ?

Thank you. Actually the head can be removed at least that''s what DoW Says and Bob from Whiteflash also said that it has a basket or something at the bottom of where the head it, in case the head cannot be modified. I posted the scans , pic and sarin report under "Good or Bad" thread title.

I actually wanted a rectangular (standard) radiant at first. I like the look of the one we chose from the pics though.

yea! WF is going to send the ring when it is inished to the indep appriser for a full retail replacement appraisal and the ring should be back here by next thursday. I can''t wait to see it. Everyone keeps saying how beautiful the setting is. I can''t wait to see it, but my fiance won''t give it to me for a while. I think he''s planning something.

I spoke to Vera today, the head does not need to be changed and the diamond should fit perfectly!

i hope you bf doesn''t take too long to give you the ring!

we need to see it!

well, I will say that I will post pics if anyone at WF emails pics of the finished ring to me. Hand shots will have to wait until my fiance re-proposes with this ring. My old e-ring will be a right-hand ring.

thanks Belle. It really pops to me, if that makes sense. It ships tomorrow. My fiance is mean though, he says I can''t look at it in person until he gives it to me and I''m probably not getting it by the end of the summer. I hope he''s lying to throw me off. It''s like waiting to get engaged all over again. Like the 6.5 years wasn''t bad enough.

You can count on me !

That''s one lovely diamond for shape alone. If it is also very bright, all for the better.

thanks ladies. I'm not a diamond expert at all, but I'm glad I've done my research and I still have yet to see it in person. It's the one for me. Oh and thanks for the crossed finger too. I need it. Also, in case I didn't mention it, it's number 3 from my first post.

not sure how I feel about it. I loved them both separately. I guess it will probably look even better in person. I love it but still want to see it on my hand.

oh wow, wow, wow!

(i hope your bf doesn''t take too long giving you that ring!)

Gorgeous rock and gorgeous setting! I adore antique looking jewelry, especially rings...you are a lucky girl!

Belle: my fiance and I have a deal now, I''ll be getting it before the summer is over but not sure exactly when.
