I am starting the search for a princess cut diamond to surprise my girlfriend with in the next few months. After looking over many postings on this web site, I have found several stones at Good Old Gold that seem to be in my budget. Please let me know your thoughts on the following two stones.

My girlfriend is a nurse and has very small hands (ring size is a 5), do you think these two stones would be practical for her to wear all the time, including to work? I was looking towards a 14k white gold Stuller 4 prong Tiffany style setting.

Would the lower color rating of G, be noticeable in a white gold setting?

Is a VS2 inclusion diamond worth investing my hard earned dollars in?

Thank you all in advance,
JJM

I have not visited the site
But VVS2 is overkill from a value pov.
VS2 will be invisible to 99% of people
And G = colorless to 99% of jewellers outside their labs

Consider low rubbed in - or give her the stone loose and let her design the ring if she is a nurse.

FWIW.... My fiance has a 1.75 ct princess that she wears at work. She says that it is not a problem wearing the ring with gloves. She is in ICU/Trauma so she definately would know! I am glad I don''t have that job!!

My wife isn''t a nurse, but an athletic trainer, so she does have to wear gloves, but I got her a round, so it wouldn''t be a great example of what would happen. I think I would be a bit nervous about the way it was set. If it has sharp corners, i think it could be a problem if there was any pressure or rubbing. It might be a better idea to look at the jubilee or square h&a styles. they don''t have quite the same pointed corners, but are still "squarish." If a princess were set in a way that there were not sharp corners it probably wouldn''t be so bad. this is purely hypothesizing, and not based on any factual data though, so take it for what its worth. (not any more than your own opinion!)

as a nurse, i don''t wear any rings to work but if your gf does, i don''t think a ring in that size would be a problem unless maybe it was set really high.

i would put my hard earned $$ into a great ''eye clean'' si stone. however if ''mind clean'' clarity is of great importance to you, go with the vs2.

Hey jmm,
I am a newbie as well, and just bought a princess from GOG that is only a few points larger than what you are looking at. It is an H VS2, and I was interested in something that I was going to get a bang for my buck from. My gf is also a nurse, and I work in a research lab, so I have been asking tons of setting questions to people wearing big rings under gloves. I think I would probably have to echo what Belle says in that it is preference. My gf wears rings under her gloves, as do many other people, but some people don''t. And the gloves can be pretty resilient so I wouldn''t worry about it too much if that''s what she says she wants to do. Good choices on those stones, and I will let you know how mine looks when I get it tomorrow morning.

Brandon.

Thank you for the response, but whem you say "VS2 will be invisible to 99% of people" - is that with the naked eye or with a loupe mag?

To the naked eye. I have an SI1 and I can't find an inclusion anywhere. Neither can my boyfriend. Under a loupe, yes, but who carries around a loupe, inspecting your diamonds? A VS2 will be perfect. To save money and still purchase an amazing stone, I'd go with the .79!
