Information on a gem earring

I'm looking for any knowledge of what type of gemstone I have....?

My impression is either quartz or glass. A third possibility is really light-toned amethyst.

It can be REALLY hard to tell from a photo alone. I think Voce has some good guesses. A number of gems can be found in this light pink / purply pink color. Rose d'France Amethyst is a top contender if it is a natural stone. In the end though, you will need to take this to someone and have them look at it in person to be able to tell for sure.
