Hello. I am new here but have been lurking unregistered for a while.
I am in need of assistance on some particular stones, or input as to possible others.
Budget is $5k or slightly over for the stone.

I had purchased a particular stone:
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut/1.24-carat-i-color-if-clarity-sku-437395

However I am now looking at something that will perform a little better:
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/0.917-g-vs2-cushion-diamond-ags-104075644004/?build=ring

We are trying to decide if the loss in carat size which matter in the superficial way of stating carat size, outweighs the fact that the other stone should be more stunning.
Are we correct in thinking that since the surface areas are similar the size difference from above will not be as extreme as the difference in carat weight?

We are wanting to use this setting:

We are looking for a Radiant or Princess. The BG Cushion is being considered because of the Hearts and Arrows cut.

Also if anyone has any other input that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

The BG stone is going to be vastly superior. You go by diameter rather than weight to compare stone sizes, and the BG stone is not very much smaller face-up than the JA stone. And if you go with that stone, I would encourage you to choose a BG setting as it is much easier to have the stone vendor set it. If you buy a setting from one place and a diamond from another, it can be a problem to find someone local to set it. Then if they do a bad job with prongs or something, you are out of luck.

Thank you so much!
That is what we are thinking now.
I think even she now knows the benefit of the performance would outweigh the difference in carat weight.
Again, for both of us it's just getting over verbally stating the size.
Superficial I know, but true.
I appreciate your input.
