My 1 year old son has a fever we have been treating with tylenol for 24 hours (successfully) and he now seems to have diarrhera. Otherwise he is active with a good apatite. What have you done when your kids were like this? I don''t like to see the doctor unneccesarily.
I''m so sorry to hear that your baby is sick. My 10 month old is sick as well, but with a fever and a cough. Our medical insurance is with Kaiser and what I usually do when my kids come down with anything is call the advice nurse and the nurse goes over a list of questions to rule out anything serious. If it''s just a virus, most of the time, you have to just let it run it''s course. I use motrin for fever (it seems to be more effective than tylenol for high fevers) and pedialyte. Both my kids hate pedialyte, so I usually squeeze it into their mouths with a medicine dropper every 20 mins or so. Just keep him hydrated and plenty or rest. I usually feed them more often but smaller meals because both my kids won''t eat when they''re sick.Date: 3/2/2010 5:03:17 PM

OMG Pandora, I have to try that tonight! I have been rubbing Vaporub on her chest and back and it doesn''t seem to be helping at all. I will let you know how it goes.Date: 3/2/2010 6:22:25 PM

Lovely, this will sound really weird... and I am the most skeptical of people especially where medicine is concerned - but I was looking in the chemist for some cough mix for Daisy a few months ago (she was about 6 months) and there was nothing she could have, but the pharmacist told me that she swore by rubbing Vaporub on a baby''s feet and then put socks on overnight.
I thought what the heck, easy enough and harmless, so I gave it a go... miracle, cough gone. I''ve tried it again since and same result. So, might be worth a try.
Commiserations on getting things into kids - D HATES Tylenol and we have to hold her down to get it into her with a syringe!
I agree.Date: 3/2/2010 5:08:33 PM

I think the best thing would be to call your doctor. He or she might not even want to see you. I would follow the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, apple sauce and toast) and keep him hydrated. Do you have pedalite (sp?) in Canada? They make it in juice and frozen form. I am a big believer in following the way they are acting. If he is acting normal (playing, happy, etc), eating, sleeping I would wait for it to pass. Poor little guy.

My 2 year old (that hates ice cream and popsicles) love the taste of motrin/tylenol. Go figure right? So strange... But Bella, my 10 month old, hates it. I have to hold her down and hold down her arms. It's a fight every 6 hours.
Sorry for thread jacking Dreamer. How is the diarrhea? Any better?
The Infant Vaporub is fine - the adult one is too strong.Date: 3/4/2010 12:53:27 PM

Side note:
I''m pretty sure Vaporub is NOT OK for rubbing on babies chests...it was shown to be a serious lung irritant and does more harm that good I think I remember hearing? Might want to check on that...
My pediatrician is the one that told me about the infant vaporub. It is very mild. The adult one is too strong for even me.Date: 3/4/2010 3:37:38 PM
