I found this site: http://www.theplatinumguy.com... don't know what their service is like, but they appear to have better prices than eweddingbands.com by quite a longshot (2mm in size 4 for $170, e.g., 3mm in 8.75 for $330ish) with all the usual guarantees etc.

I'm considering ordering from them. If I do I'll let you all know whether it's thumbs up!

With platinum alloyed for jewellers costing somewhere around $50 per gram before working and margin I suspect those rings will be very flimsy.

Pltinum rings weigh about 1/2 as much again for the same thickness and bend fairly easily.

You can get the lightest weight band at e-weddingbands.com for $199 in that size, so if his $170 band is not very heavy, then he is probably not beating them by much. Ok, I just checked - his $170 band says it is 1.1 mm thick, whereas the $199 band from e-weddingbands.com says 1.3 mm thick. He''s right in line with theirs for what he is giving you.

I got a step edge platinum band from e-weddingbands.com a little bit more than a week ago for $397 and I can tell you it is awesome. I think it is worth every penny. I highly recommend them for service, quality, and speedy delivery!

I just bought my fiance''s and my matching bands last week, so I did a bunch of research on vendors with platinum bands. Some other places I found were: weddingbands2buy.com (2 mm band in size 4 is $192 and is 1.35 mm thick) and weddingringhotline.com (2 mm band in size 4 is $207 and is 1.5 mm thick). Wedding ring hotline also has a price match guarantee (but only for rings with the same thickness). I ended up ordering my fiancee a 4 mm platinum comfort fit ring that is 1.8 mm thick (extra heavy) for a little over $400 and my band was cheap: for my matching band I"m doing a 3mm palladium band that is 1.5 mm thick for less than $100. I only plan to wear it when I''m active and don''t want to wear my e-ring and other wedding band, but if I don''t like it after 6 months or so, I''ll get a platinum band.

There are a bunch of sites out there and I do notices that their prices fluctuate sometimes.

It looks like theplatinumguy.com's 3mm ring with comfort fit in size 8 is 1.5mm thick, same as at eweddingbands.com, and they say the weight is 4.8 grams. Do you folks that is too flimsy for a man's band?

Adn thanks for the tips! That's so helpful.

When I was considering bands at e-weddingbands.com, I emailed them a bunch of styles so they could tell me the weight in a size 5. I tracked down that email and will post it below. This might be of intesest to you, although these are smaller sizes, and 4mm widths.

PT-M4mm 5.5 grams
PT-MCF4mm 7.25 grams
PT-CFL4mm 6.05 grams
PT-CFH4mm 9.15 grams
310-CFLE4mm 6.05 grams

If you go to www.platinumovernight.com, each of the different rings has a cool feature where they will tell you the weight based on the ring style, size, and width. This is also a good tool to compare the different rings.

Sorry, I keep thinking of other things to tell you. Diamond Design Co also has platinum bands. Check out http://store.diamonddesignco.com/weddingbands.html to compare pricing. I really think the price of platinum is what drives wedding bands. The amount of platinum in the band, plus the variations in the mark up % of the seller.

Also wanted to add...I think 3mm might be a bit narrow for a man, but that''s just my opinion. I know a lot of men wear 3mm, but I like something a bit more substantial on a man''s hand.

Thanks so much! That''s seriously helpful.

I agree that 3mm is too narrow for a man. He says that''s what he wants, though! I thought about taking him in to a B&M to try 3mm and 4mm on one more time so he can be SURE. I think I''ll do that. After all, it''s forever!
