I was going to go to David''s Bridal to look for a dress because I really only want to spend $600 or less. I''ve read some things about there being other designers out there that are cheaper (less than $1000). Can anyone tell me who some of these designers might be?

I thought the Jasmine dresses were lovely and affordable, many in your price range. Quality MUCH better than anything at David's Bridal IMHO.
For example, I thought this one was $575ish??

ETA: I bought a Sophia Tolli dress. www.sophiatolli.com Some of hers seemed to be around the $1000 range, a little more than Jasmine but well made and great fit. I left that out b/c you said $600 but then I noticed you also said less than $1000. Keep looking around before you buy one just because it's cheap.

Mine retailed for more, but I paid less than 600 for mine from Netbride and it was MonCheri bridals.

I would advise ordering through Netbride they have amazing service and reviews and you can get a great dress for a great price. You will have to find your own seamstress, but for me it was worth it.

One caveat about inexpensive dresses (and this was true with mine as well) is that some of them don't have the right structure in terms of boning etc. for the design so when you go wedding dress shopping try on some higher end gowns and make sure you study them in terms of quality of construction so you know what to look for in a less expensive dress. I had my seamstress add boning to mine as it still ended up less expensive then the other dresses I liked so for me it was still worth it.

ETA: I SWEAR TO GOD I AM AN IDIOT. Don't buy an inexpensive wedding dress. Buy a Bridesmaid Dress in white or ivory. You can get a high end designer gown like an Amsale or Jim Hjelm or Lazaro or Vera Wang for what you are looking to spend. Better quality than an inexpensive wedding dress, and much better prices.

Seriously. Don't tell the salons you are looking for a wedding dress. Tell them you want a BM gown, a very formal one and try on what they have. When it comes time to order... just order it in white.

They will upcharge you for a single white or off white gown... but even with the upcharge it will be totally worth it. There have been quite a few PSers who have bought BM gowns in white and it's always just so amazing how they look!

Here's MMM's dress as an example. Seriously, would you have EVER thought it was a BM gown unless someone told you? It's amazing!

Wow, you''re right! That looks nothing like a BM dress... I might have to seriously think about doing that. Thanks for the suggestion.

Maggie Sottero dresses are typically under $1000. I got mine for $800.

Mori Lee is also in that price range. My friend tried one on at a salon for $850, and bought it online for $600. It seemed pretty well made, and nicer than teh Davids dresses.

Alfred Angelo has LOTS of dresses, both bridal and bridesmaid, in your price range and they are much nicer than david''s bridal, imo.

I second looking for mon cheri for cheap. My dress comes from one of their sister lines and it is all silk and the beading is the most sparkly of any I tried on, even dress that cost $5,000+. Mine costs $1,000 but I am sure places like pearl''s place and what not could get them to you in your price range

If you want something "princessy" mary''s bridal is the place to go in that price range.

Raylia is another line that is pretty well made but inexpensive.

Sophia Tolli...

She used to be the head designer for Maggie Sottero. My dress is a Tolli and it the craftsmenship is excellent.

Oh her dresses are gorgeous! Is she really in the price range I''m looking for?

Mine was under $1000 I bought it in a trunk sale, so it was another 15-20% off.

I love fellow bargain hunters.

My dress is a J.Crew final sale Goddess style, and I paid $159.99. Other J.Crew dresses are less than $400 in some cases, but I''ve also oggled Wai Ching dresses on various figures, and some are in your price range as well. And, I also second the idea of looking at bridesmaid dresses; Lynn Lugo and some others let you ''design your own dress'' and they have some fabulous options. Good luck!!

Try Casablanca dresses...they really are stunning. I am wearing Casablanca 1881 in all Ivory. It was $790 before alterations, but they do have dresses that run cheaper.

Good luck :)

Hi.

I''m just chiming in to add to what Gypsy said. I found my dress on the rack at Nordstrom''s. It was under $300 and it is a Vera Wang bridesmaid''s dress. It was just hanging there in the "Special Occasion" dept. I recommend hunting through those special occasion racks!

You can also try BMs dresses, which are way cheaper and often can be a bridal gown if in a champagne, ivory or white color... I just re posted a photo of my wedding dress on the bolero thread...It was a BM dress in champagne that I made into a wedding gown. I think it was $250.

I second this suggestion - Surfgirls dress was GORGEOUS!!! Also, don''t discount David''s if you find something you like - my dress came from there and was under $300 (I had a coupon).

i don''t know how much time you have, or how much time you''re willing to spend on dress shopping, and what your size is but if you''re willing to spend the time and if your size is close to the sample size, i''d say shop around ... go to high-end stores and try different designs to know what you like/ don''t like and what works/ doesn''t work for your figure and shop online.

you can get a better deal for a nicer dress--you can always find great deals on ebay or other wedding dress sites (i.e. bride power, preowned, etc) for high end dresses in your budget.
