I am considering purchasing a 1.78 Carat RB GIA GSI2 58.5 Depth % 58 Table, VG, VG, No Florescence, No Culet. The Diamond has no inclusions visible face up and it has tons of fire, scintillation and brilliance. Face up, the diamond the plotting chart indicates a tiny cloud (I couldn''t see it with the loop, even after 8 minutes of searching) and pinpoints not shown (saw one with the loop). I have looked at tons of diamonds and, face up, this diamond is as attractive as any VS at a steep discount. The one catch is, while this diamond does have an indented natural with a tiny feather halfway down the pavilion that was visible in sunlight. It looked just like there was a tiny bit more light leakage, which clued me into the flaw. The gemologist pointed it out on the plotting chart and said that it was because of this indented natural that the diamond was graded an SI2 instead of a VS or better, but, because it''s on the half-way down the pavillion, once the diamond is set, you can''t see it and, to all the world, it would appear to be a VS. Does this sound right? The diamond is priced as an SI2, so does this make it a good buy for an SI2??
Under the loop, it appears that the feather and indented natural are togther. This is visible under the 10X loop. From what I can see, the feather does not break the surface, but I can be wrong. Is there reason to worry about the feather spreading and fracturing because it is located with the natura?? Does the fact that it is located on the pavillion mitigate against this concern?
