Okay, so I have to call my jeweler and request exactly which stones she should get in for me to look at. I am going to ask for GIA or AGS. I don''t think that I want to go any different than a VS 1 or 2. Want a 1.25 or 1.50 . Don''t know what to ask for about table and depth and I don''t know what a crown and pavilion # is. I suppose I should ask for excellent cut. The more that I think about it, I really would like a 1.5 , but the 1.5 that I saw didn''t look that much larger than the 1.27 that I Saw. I suppose that had to do with the depth of it???

NOW, this is probably the dumbest question ever posted...but here goes: The diamonds that I saw were okay. They ALL had inclusions, one even had Exclusions(I thinkthat''s what it was called). Can someone explain that? Do all diamonds (obviously flawless do not) have these feathers or cloudy (i can''t remember what that was called either) looking sections on them? I assume that they have one or the other, but does it always show on both sides? I need to call in an hour or so, so anyone out there that can help me , I''d appreciate it!

Anything inside a diamond is an "inclusion". Anything really on the outside is a "blemish" Anything that begins on the surface and then proceeds internally is an "open inclusion" In simplistic rerms try to avoid ?open inclusions". A small blemish, or a natural, the skin of the original crystal that was left unpolished, are rarely problematic. Inclusions vary in danger and importance. This is a highly variable area and you can't be expected to manage it. Get full disclosure from the seller and check it out with experts.

i would have to agree, i don''t think a 1.25 looks that much different from a 1.50. once you hit a certain size, it''s just ''big'' (of course there is bigger and much bigger but you would have to go above 2cts to really notice).
if you want to be assured of a great cut without knowing anymore about the stuff that makes the diamond perform (crown, pavilion..etc) ask to see ags graded diamonds (new, with the light performance grade. make sure the light grade is ''0'') and you will be assured a winner.
exclusions?

i''m not sure what you''re referring to. maybe a feather that breaks the surface? at any rate, go with a vs diamond if you are worried about it.
best of luck!

Thanks for the quick replies !

So, all diamonds have a feather or some other inclusion. I thought that exclusion was the other word that they said. They explained it as something that could have been polished off, but would have made the diamond smaller. It was from IGI , which I was told is not a good way to go by people on these boards.

The only other thing I am questioning now is GIRDLE> Can someone explain?

Also, where would it show that it''s an AGS 0? I have looked up diamonds on the internet and not found one yet like that.

not necessarily a feather, just some sort of inclusion.

that sounds like a ''natural''. a piece of the diamond ''skin'' left on that doesn''t usually effect the appearance.

it is not always the most accurate but can represent a good deal if you know what you are looking for.

on the grading report.
do a search using the ''pricescope your diamond'' tool above. select ''cut quality search'' or ''in house'' the vendors here specialize in high quality diamonds, which are usually graded ags0

Ally, before you go look at a single diamond, you need to take a little time to study the material in the Good Old Gold section on the 4 C''s. It thoroughly explains diamond quality and gives great pictures. Being educated is your best asset for getting a good diamond.
