Inclusion-chip? Calling all experts...

It is refreshing to know that there are a ton of people out there that are willing to help us less knowledgable first timers with picking the right stone.

In what appears to be my endless search for the right center stone, I thought I had found the perfect fit, until I received a copy of the GIA report and looked at the inclusions that were listed. Out of all of the GIA reports that I have looked at this is the first one that has referenced a "chip." Is this something inside the stone or outside as it is graded as an SI 1 in July of 2007. Should I stay away from this stone? Please let me know your thoughts.

I haven''t seen this stone in person, but aside from this inclusion I really like the specs. of the stone. Please help...

A chip is an external characteristic that intrudes a certain amount internally. Most commonly they are located on the girdle. If the diamond is graded as an SI1 it is probably a slight amount that it intrudes internally.

You need more info regarding the chip. Photos under magnification in particular would be helpful. It may be that the chip has run its course and the durability of the stone is fine. On the other hand, it could be a sign of other problems, such as an extremely thin girdle prone to more chipping, or an area that is more delicate because of the chip, etc.
