I''m a complete newbie to diamonds but have read everything here and done 2 months worth of shopping. I''m buying an engagement ring for my darling and have settled on the following:

1.5-1.75 carats
F color Princess cut
AGS or GIA certified
VVS2 or VS1
Ex Sym, Pol and Cut (polish being the least important to me)

I''ve read a fair amount from the forums and even met the only AGS certified jeweler in my area. I want to know if the following deal (an know in the sense of whether it "appears" to be reasonable) sounds in line with your estimates:

1.5 carats
F color
Triple excellent Sym, Cut and Polish
GIA certified
Princess Cut

Setting below with 1.75 carats of VS2-SI1 H-G color comprised of center ring and 2 bands, Platinum

Hi T,

First, the highlighted below cannot be correct. GIA does not grade Cut on fancy shapes, and as such this stone cannot have an excellent Cut-grade.

Which brings about the following question:

Seeing that you mention 1.5 as weight,
seeing that you do not mention a clarity,
seeing that you mention a cut-grade for a princess-cut,
is the information above coming from a GIA grading-report, or is the store-owner giving you his estimate and telling you that it is GIA-certified because he is a GIA GG?

As for your question regarding value, I am not at liberty to discuss this. For others to give you some advice, you will need to give at least the clarity-grade, confirm that it is truly a GIA-report, and give more proportion-parameters and preferably an ASET- or Ideal-scope-picture.
