In preparation for President Trump´s visit to the UK

I saw this on cable TV last night. The story said that besides all the protests at every stage of Trump's visit, that permission had been obtained for this gigantic balloon to be flown over the Houses of Parliament. The balloon's creator spoke, saying that he felt it was the best way to reach Trump, who only responded to be being mocked as small. He is depicted here as a crying baby in diapers with a cellphone in his hand.

I am hoping that the demonstrations against him are huge and inescapable. Poor Queen Elizabeth to be obliged to meet him.

Going from what I've seen of her, she will have no trouble expressing any displeasure she may be feeling... lol

I think it is ridiculous. Imagine a giant blimp of one of the UKs PMs here in the US. But people are free to do as they like as far as I am concerned.

I think what's ridiculous is the number of Republicans who believed that Obama diminished our country's standing around the world, but turn a blind eye to the havoc wreaked by Trump. None of this is normal, and if the people of our closest ally nations see it fit to mock and protest our president, but Russia loves him, then something is really, really wrong.

And, because reality clearly has a liberal bias:

The Guardian
Global confidence in US leadership has fallen to a new low, and the country now ranks below China in worldwide approval ratings, according to a new Gallup poll.

The survey of opinion in 134 countries showed a record collapse in approval for the US role in the world, from 48% under Obama to 30% after one year of Donald Trump – the lowest level Gallup has recorded since beginning its global leadership poll over a decade ago.

The result comes after a separate Gallup survey found that Trump reaches the first anniversary of his inauguration with the lowest average approval rating of any elected president in his first year.

HI,

I agree whole heartedly with the sentiment that this man should be mocked. And should be at every turn. He is infantile and the baby pictures him perfectly.

While it may be fun, some people think it is ridiculous. The next election will be interesting to say the least. Trump has done quite a job at trolling.

Mockery in this context is protest, not "fun", and not "ridiculous". The protests are real, the outrage and fear for world stability are deep. And since Trump is too stupid to understand protest that is more subtle - like brickbats and incendiaries, a balloon that is hard to miss will have to do.

Of course it's protest. And like I said people can do as they like.

In your opinion, is that presidential behavior?
No it isn't but his demeanor is why I wouldn't vote for him. I wish I could be saying President Cruz. But that isn't the case now is it.

That balloon is not my style of protest, but my style of protest is very dry and without imagination. As long as the protest is non-violent, I applaud the protest of Trump. I hope it is "big" to use one of trump's words. My style of protest is usually conservative and "small": show up with a sign at a non-violent rally or give money to a non-violent group who sues Trump and his ilk. A balloon catches more attention. The way Trump catches attention. It is the circus in the bread and circuses. Trump refuses to give anyone but billionaires bread, but he indulges all of us in his circus.

You are right MariaD. Continued outrage at everything Trump will likely result in the opposite effect that Dems seek. Backing far left candidates will as well.

Make no mistake, I am seething on the inside :angryfire:

Yesterday I ran into an acquaintance on the beach. I had his son, an avid republican, as a student several years ago - when decent republicans would never support a man such as Trump and deplorables were not so emboldened. His son and I had a great relationship. As he was filling me in on his son's successful career embarkment (graduated from college 2 years ago) he said a few pro-Trump things (yay tax cuts, works so hard - 20 hours a day!). I countered with some facts about those tax cuts and stated that most would not consider golfing, tweeting, and watching Fox News all day working hard. And then he actually said this, with a big smile on his face: "those tweets are just to outrage the liberals."

In that moment I decided that one of us was going to walk away from this conversation totally pissed off and it wasn't going to be me! I went into full mock mode: "So which of his diatribes do you like the best Steve? Did you DVR that bizarre phone interview on Fox&Friends so you could watch it again and again? Such eloquence and clarity of thought! How about saluting a North Korean general - not sure he was trying to outrage liberals there, Steve; I think he was just absolutely enthralled. I mean this puts him in the same league as a cool guy like Dennis Rodman!" Yeah, he probably won't be talking to me anymore.8-)

As for far left candidates - Hilary Clinton WAS a moderate democrat. I should have listened to my daughter and campaigned furiously for Bernie.

Hillary was a moderate Democrat in 2008 but not in 2016. I would have been happier with her rather than Obama. The party was pulling her to the left in the last election. It was about SCOTUS for many people. Too bad about you and your friend because I hate to see people shun friends or acquaintances because of politics.

1) It doesn't matter who you would have been happier with when; Clinton was moderate compared to Sanders and in hindsight it looks like Sanders had a better chance of beating Trump.

2) Interesting that you think I shunned him. I was egging him on in the same friendly manner he was with me. Or maybe you think he shunned me by saying Trump tweets to outrage liberals? Whatever. I see no need to assuage the feelings of Trump supporters or apologizers, whether they be friends, acquaintances or strangers. In fact I feel it's my duty to do the opposite.

I meant shunning in general, not pointing to you or him. You do you. That's the way it should be. ;)) So does that mean you don't want to meet up with me when I get back to Maine? My feelings don't get hurt and I'm not rude to people.

As far as Bernie that was a NEVER for me. :)

Exactly! You, and most conservatives, weren't going to vote for Bernie or Clinton so it really didn't matter how more or less moderate either one was.

Are you coming back to Maine? I would love to meet up! I'm around for most of August, will be gone for last 3 weeks of July. I am just as blunt in real life as online but a lot of people think I'm funny in person. I don't think I'm rude though - c'mon, nothing I've said about Trump isn't the truth!

I don't know if I still have your e-mail, MariaD. If you have missy's or diamondlover's, I know I held onto their e-mail addresses. I used to have-and have somewhere-the e-mail addresses for almost everyone who was anyone in the on-line diamond world. (I also had the real names and addresses for about 100 people since I had sent them cakes when they got to 10,000 postings on Pricescope. OK, maybe not 100, but a lot! But that list is locked up in my Virginia home!) I am mentioning this because I know I will returning to Maine again and again since my best friend in in Rockland/Rockport (depending if you use her PO Box or street address). She and her husband would probably get along well with you, too since they are brilliant, funny, knowledgeable, and leftist. They happen to be very into guns, however. My best friend never was, but her husband grew up in Maine and Canada and served in both the Canadian and US military forces. He got her interested in guns and now she has her own gun, which she had to show me. In fact, the two of them were showing me their Sig Sauers on my last trip! But my friend's DH has a huge collection.

At any rate, can you get me your e-mail? I'd love to stop by and if red would be there at the same time, it would be fantastic! Next time she's here, maybe I can drive up.

Deb :wavey:

It would be WILD to actually meet you Deb! I have a juno.com email address for you. I'm guessing it's probably extinct. Do you have my first and last name? (I know yours.) I have a gmail.com address that's exactly that: [email protected].

I have no email addresses (or facebook knowledge) of anyone else here!

This would be so fun and I am so sorry that the one week we were there last year did not allow a meet up with you and Kate to fit in. Three states in one week is just too much especially when Boston is in the mix. We were in Portland all of two hours before heading back to NH. Deb it would be so fun to add you as well. Unfortunately with the trips to Ireland and California there is no more allowed this year. DH would have a conniption. Though he does say he wants to move to Maine whenever he sees the prices of homes on acreage. :rolleyes2:

My Juno address never changed. I don't think I have any other extant accounts from the past, though, and I do not remember your names. Everyone's names and addresses are safe with me, because I have no memory at all! ;))

Hi, again, MariaD. I just looked through my e-mail addresses and sent out a query at random. If it was ever your e-mail address it may no longer be. Not everyone keeps her e-mail addresses forever the way I do. I just thought it might have been yours.

Don't laugh too hard about the power of black women, Dancing Fire. Remember what they did in Alabama for Doug Jones. They have rallied behind Maxine Waters. They aren't too happy about Nancy Pelosi having suggested she was "uncivilized" when she was addressing the life and death issue of the separation of children from parents at the border. That issue is serious business.

There are many great black women in our history but crazy Waters is not one of them.
