I''m considering a GIA graded diamond with the following specs for a promise ring for my g/f of three years. I could really use some help determing what a stone with these characteristics would be worth.

.23 ct. Round Brilliant
Excellent Cut
D Color
VS1 Clarity
Very Good Polish
Very Good Symmetry
Medium to Slightly Thick Girdle, Faceted
No Cutlet
Medium Blue Fluorescence (Not Oily or Cloudy)
Table: 59% (slightly big but I was told this is less important than the Crown and Pavillion Angles and Depth)
Depth: 60.2%
Crown Angle: 34
Pavillion Angle: 40.8

I plugged these numbers into the HCA and received a 1.4 TIC with excellent for all scores except scintillation (very good). Also, the diamond fell within both the AGS and GIA ideal/excellent cut ranges.

I believe the link below will work.

I have the diamond on hold for $362. Is this a good deal? It seems to be significantly discounted for the Blue Fluorescence which I think she''d actually enjoy. I get the feeling that the diamond was also discounted because of the larger table than ideal (59% being above the 57% ideal cutoff). But when you consider the other dimensions like the Crown and Pavillion angles, it seems to be a better cut than one would expect from the table and depth numbers alone.

What would you expect this diamond to be worth? Am I getting a steal? Thank you so much in advance for any help you could provide.

Hi Chase!

It looks like it has potential, you could drop your colour and perhaps clarity and still have a very white, clean diamond, to get extra size if you wished - but that is a personal preference of course! You can check pricing by using the Pricescope your Diamond tool at the top of the page.

I''m trying to keep it under 1/4 ct. so that I can maintain a promise ring, rather than engagement ring setting. The price comparison feature didn''t seem to help much. Think I need an expert for this one.

Sorry if I wasn't of much help, or the pricing feature, I hope one of the experts can chime in for you then!

It seems BN are reasonable with their pricing. I just did a quick search and found 4 pages of similar size, colour and clarity diamonds...As Belle says, your price looks fine, also there really aren't any steals to be had unfortunately, especially online where vendors keep their prices as low as possible already, especially compared to B&M establishments.

that is a good price.
in that size, you certainly don''t have to go crazy over the numbers. it looks good.

How much of a discount is typical for medium blue fluorescence in a D, VS1 stone (.23 ct.)?

I''ve read 5% for medium blue and VS1, but this stone seems to have been discounted 15%-20% from what I can tell.

i''m not sure what you want by finding out what the discount could/would/should be.

btw...you can''t tell. there is more that goes into pricing than the obvious. much more.

short of a sarin report, I have most of the info. What else could cause a discount that drastic? I guess my problem is that it seems too good to be true The diamond consultant said the discount was likely due to the table size (over 57%) and the fluorescence but given the near ideal angles and the HCA 1.4 TIC and the lack of any oily effect of the fluorescence a discount close to 20% seems steep. Am I missing something?
