Hi out there,
My now husband bought me a 1.07CT, E, VS(I) Square MOD Brill Cut Platinum ring when he proposed in Jan of 2011. He purchased the GIA certified ring online so when we needed it sized we took it to a local, but reputable, jewlery shop. I made them aware that it was Platinum but when I got my ring back two weeks later I could tell that something had been done wrong. The bottom piece of the band was bent and crooked and I could see the seam where the ring had been sized. I took it back to them and the manager simply stated that I must have bought the ring like that because his goldsmith doesn't size platinum as they do not have the proper equiptment. Once I put forth my receipt proving the work had been done there, he still denied that they had any liabiliy in the matter but offered to have my ring sent to Toronto where they would replace the bottom piece free of charge(I've been told Toronto and Vancouver are the only places in Canada with the proper equiptment to size platinum). After that nasty experience I had my Platinum Band made elsewhere. Just a few weeks ago I took a tumble and to my shock the fall resulted in the bottom piece of my ring collapsing. There are two clearly defined breaks. I am no expert but I'm pretty sure Platinum should have held up against me tripping and bracing myself on the ground with my hand. I took it to the place that did the great work on my band and they said that chances are my ring had been improperly repaired with gold solder, but that I would likely have a hard time making the other jewler accountable for this. I need some more advise before I go back to them and ask them to be responsible for the damages. Do you agree that the local jewler likely followed improper proceedures which compromised the integrity of my ring?
