It can be estimated by formula:

in mm: length x width x depth x density x shape factor

5.8 x 5.8 x 3.8 x 3.64 x .0018 = 0.84 cts

Keep in mind this is an estimate: 5.8mm diameter

You learn this in gemology studies

Did he say this was a color shifter? I feel like ever blue spinel I've seen from him had a slight purple color shift.

He said that it might show a bit of purplishness under some indoor light, but that it
seems to be a more stable blue color than he had thought.

All of this really means nothing to me seeing as I have never even seen a spinel in real life before (or indeed even heard of one before discovering this forum!) so I am excited to see it for myself.
