Hey all, it looks like it’s about that time for me to take the E-Ring plunge. I have been lurking on this site for the past 3 or 4 months trying to soak in all of the wonderful information that you all have been providing. I''ve read through the tutorials and learned just enough to be dangerous (hehe) but for all intents and purposes I am still by far a novice. I decided to go with this platinum ring design from Whiteflash (http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Diamond-Settings/Bead-Set-Engagment-Ring_966.htm#) with some custom touches added to it. The budget I am trying to stay between is $3000 - $3500 for the diamond itself. I would prefer to get the diamond from Whiteflash as well to ease the whole process of building the ring but if there is a better diamond from another company (GOG, BN, etc.) I am not married to purchasing it from Whiteflash. Knowing that cut is king I am willing to go lower on the color, clarity, and carat scale to try and get the best cut possible within my budget. Looking at the diamonds that Whiteflash has available on their site below are the best ones that I was able to find that I can afford.

Please let me know which one you think would be the best out of these four and by all means please list any other round diamonds that you find that you think would be even better. I cannot even begin to thank you all for the wonderful advice that you provide and I really appreciate you helping me find the perfect stone for my baby.

Cheers,
John

Congratulations on taking the plunge! I''m by no means an expert, but in going through something similar a few months back (becoming educated and advice from PSers) and working with both GOG and WF and you definitely can''t go wrong with either one in my opinion. GOG (Tim) is who helped me with my ering upgrade - I love him

I would say #1 or #2 would be most appealing based on some of the criteria and advice I have seen/been given. After being introduced to ACA and H&A, my personal preference would be to stick within this bunch as they are just beautiful! There isn''t that much of a difference between these two

#3: most folks would probably choose ideal/ideal for polish/symmetry, but I''ve also been told there is not a difference visible by the human eye between excellent and ideal

#4: again, most would advise to avoid paying the extra cost of what VVS clarity would cost and put that money elsewhere.

In short, you really can''t go wrong with any of these....Hope this was helpful (and that I haven''t put anything that I have learned to bad use)!

#2 - same color as the rest, idealscope looks same as the rest, you are not paying for VVS when it is not needed, and all inclusions are mostly off the table. I found these inclusions are usually more difficult to locate even under a microscope.

Just recently bought an ACA myself. They are sweet.

Thanks for the great advice guys that definitely does help alot. Does anyone else have advice regarding these diamonds or any other selections that you think would be a good purchase? Please don''t be shy the more responses the better, hehe.

Personally I'd drop down in clarity and either save money or go bigger! An SI1 and even a well-selected SI2 can be eye-clean, just make sure to ask whiteflash if it's eye-clean, they will give you an honest answer. Also, if you purchase from a pricescope vendor be sure to ask for the pricescope discount. It's not huge but it can help 3-5%.

Edit: I'm not diggin the cut on number one as much as the others, a bit too deep and a HCA higher than 2. Number three is nice and spready, but it is clarity overkill and also I'm not diggin the clarity overkill VS1. I'm diggin the cut on number four probably the best, but it's clarity overkill in my opinion. Number two is fine, but the depth is slightly higher than I'd like so the stone will face up a bit smaller than those with a depth of 60-61. Seriously though, these stones will all be beautiful if you have a taste for higher clarity then these stones are fine. As far as picking between them, there are only small differences and there will be slightly different preferences from all of us. All of these stones will most likely be gorgeous.

These are all great choices, you can''t go wrong with any of them, go with your preference. Regarding diamond 1, I found it scored a 1.8 on the HCA?

You scored it a plus 2 Koursie? Just curious, it looks great to me, couldn''t understand the score so I ran it through myself.

I'm not sure what figures you're using. I'm getting a 1.8 on the HCA, and the depth is under 62%.

Are you looking at the wrong stone?

For me personally, I'm not wild about any of these.

I don't care for the idealscope on this D from WF.

I'm not wild about the depth on the GOG stone; not a train smash, but the numbers on the stones Cyberj posted are much more cherry.

I'm not a fan of the JA stones, either. The crown/pav angle combos just aren't in the sweet spot...I'm not a fan of steep/deeps, and I really don't care for the 41.4 pav. angle on the other.

I'd go with #1 or #2 in the original post.

LOL thanks for the support.

. I didn''t state they were the best of the best..I just thought they were pretty "cute", well cut and nice looking for the money. To each his own, I guess.

I vote # 1 or 2.

Oops, I typed in the wrong depth, thanks for catching this!

Thanks for all the wonderful info. Based on the replies it does seem that most people prefer diamond number 1 or number 2.

Giangi,
Much thanks for searching for some other diamonds for me but I agree with aljdewey that the idealscope image on that D from WF is kinda funky

. The GoG suggestion looked pretty decent though so I''ll have to give it some consideration.

One more question peps. The person at WF that I’m working with said they should be getting another shipment of diamonds in the next 2 – 3 weeks. It is going to take about 3 weeks for them to make the custom setting that I want and I need choose the diamond for the ring prior to them creating it. The rep did say however that I could pick a diamond for them to start working with now and then when they got in their new shipment if I saw a diamond that I liked better they could make adjustments to the ring to fit the new rock. So I guess the question is should I have them start building it with either diamond number 1 or 2 or just wait for the new shipment to get a wider selection of diamonds? Again, thanks in advance for all of the great advice.

Looks like I answered my own question, hehe. I did some more searching on Whiteflash and found some diamonds that were not there a few days ago. I guess they got another shipment in already. Anyway, how do you think these 3 stones compare with diamonds number 1 and 2 from my above post? Based on people''s recommendations I’ve eliminated my original number 3 and 4 diamond pick. Any and all comments are welcome.

Any suggestions? Come guys don''t let me make this decision on my own. I know I''ll screw it up, lol.
