I'm TIRED of my hair.

I stopped highlighting it god, 5 or 6 years ago? And now it's all my natural and vigin hair. And it's long. LONGER now than at my wedding (oddly enough) And I am just so tired of it. Problem is it looks best on me long. And I'm LAZY and I'm rather spend my $$ on other things.

But I'm thinking of dyeing my hair burgundy and chopping it down for the summer. And if I'm thinking it, that means (knowing me) that one day I'll be at the grocery store get fed up and walk into the nearst decent salon and just do it. That's how I roll (hehehe).

Do you make impulsive hair choices, and how to they usually end up?

Erm. Yeah. I totally do, and I really shouldn't! I impulsively chopped off around 12 inches of hair last year around June. I missed my hair like mad. I also realized that I wouldn't be able to have it long for the wedding. Still kicking myself in the rear for that (bad) decision.

Although, I really did like it short. I just feel naked with my neck exposed.

FWIW, I totally think you should do the cut/colour! I can picture you with it, and in my mind it looks damn good!

I don''t usually do anything impulsive with my hair because mine is very temperamental

, unfortunately. HOWEVER, I have decided that I am going to cut it short for the summer. Not short-short but definitely shorter than usual (above my shoulders). I just have to get the guts to do it! lol

Go for it Gypsy! Change is good.

I have, and it usually turns out well. I''m not that sensitive about my hair when it comes to cutting it. Worst case scenario? It''s temporary- hair grows. Why not do something fun for the summer? Something shorter would be cooler and easier to manage.

How short were you thinking?

Sure, implusive choices are good!

I''ve done the impulsive walk in to a salon and just go nuts thing, and its worked out well.

I will say, for one, that I find shorter hair to be difficult during the summer. It''s easier for me to pull everything back in a ponytail when its longer. When it''s short, there''s less weight and my hair gets frizzier and harder to handle.

Just thought I''d throw that out there since I''ve gone short for summer and regretted it.

I'm thinking I probably will do the color. I have generally nice hair and it's the one feature I actually take care of. The only thing about coloring that I can't stand (other than the upkeep) is the split ends. My hair is really healthy and split ends and dry hair drive me bonkers.

Should I do an all over color do you think or highlights of violet/red? My hair is naturally about a 2-3 and I'm thinking of going up to a 4-5 with the burgundy. I could also do highlights of 5 but do the rest with a color deposit to put burgundy into it.

Red is really hard to get out though. Hmm...

As for the cut. Not that short. I do not look good with short short short. I was thinking just below the shoulders (which would be about 6 inches off my current length).

Last time I made an impulsive hair decision was in 4th grade! I went from super long hair to a really cute a-line bob...I was at the mall with my auntie and mother and I just announced that I was cutting my hair off. It looked really cute back then, and I''ve often thought about doing it again but never had the courage!

Okay well, I made an appointment for next week with a color specialist at a place with good yelp reviews. We''ll see!

http://www.yelp.com/biz/montgomery-beauty-salon-dublin#hrid:p1ETZ-ltbGqibYRZW08vCA I think they use redken, so I might keep looking, there are a couple of lines I like... one of them is wella and the other is framesi (I think that''s how it''s spelled). The one time I got redken before, I didn''t care for it, but that could have been the colorist (she wasn''t the best, honestly).

Okay. Moved it out to the following week b/c I didn''t like what I read about that stylist. Now, we''ll see if I make it two weeks without doing something drastic.

10 or so years ago I cut my hair from waist long to my shoulders and since I didn''t like it a year later cut it very short. I liked it for a while but then realized that I missed the beautiful hair I had once had. I do think I look absolutely great in shorter hair, but I really miss the length. I don''t know what I was thinking at the time. My sister said I should have bought a short wig instead. Now I want to cry! I miss my hair....all I have left are the photos.

With color, yes. With cut, not so much, at least not anymore. My impulsive hair choices have not turned out well, and neither have most of my drastic well-thought-out choices. I chopped my hair the day after the wedding before we left for the honeymoon, and it was the worst idea ever! Although it was a cute cut on me, it did not do well in the humidity on the honeymoon, or even in the regular heat the rest of the summer. It needed to be blow-dried, heavily producted, and straightened to look good, and I''ve really hated not being able to pull it back. It''s been almost a year and it''s finally now at a length I can pull back.

I''m so glad I started this thread.

I have to say, being able to still pull it back is a must have for me. I spend all my work week with my hair up. But I''ve got a 12 inch pony, so I think I''ve got a reasonable amount of length to go till I get to the no-pony zone. But it wouldn''t have occurred to me to say that, if you all hadn''t brought up the point. And I will tell her I am into low maintenance.

Several years ago I got so sick of my hair that I went to my stylist and chopped it all off. Above the ears, bangs, side part - totally not me. It was cute for a while so I kept it up. While I was preggo last summer I got pretty lazy and it started growing out - at the longest it had finally reached just below my earlobes. Still short, but a cute bob on me.

I got sick of that and got it cut right before my son''s baptism - and I stupidly let DH''s aunt cut it. She''s a professional stylist so I figured she was a safe bet, plus she was willing to do it for free. Big mistake. She didn''t listen to anything I told her and totally chopped it off. It was above the tops of my ears on the sides, and short short short in the back too. I didn''t cry right there, but I did in the car the whole way home. I won''t even look at the baptism pictures because I know it looks awful.

I waited about three weeks and then called my regular stylist. She cleaned it up and bit and shaped it but there''s nothing that can be done except to let it grow as much as possible. Unfortunately, my regular stylist died a few months ago (a rare type of cancer) and I had to find somebody new. I really like her and she''s helping me grow it out. Basically, I let it get shaggy and then go in for some shaping - light layering, a small trim and some evening out between the front and back. My hair grows very slowly so it will probably be years before I can get it into a pony again

I miss my hair sooo much. I generally have the attitude that it''s just hair and it will grow back, but I feel so stupid to have let DH''s aunt chop it off. It was cute before that and if I had left it alone I''d probably be able to do a pony for this summer

I''ll probably never cut it so short ever again, nor will I let it grow past my shoulders because my hair is too thin to be that long, so I''m probably going to find a bob style that fits into a pony and leave it at that.

Are you planning to do highlights? I would stick with those!

I have a ton of gray showing and I am in need of a cut. GEEZ. I need to do something impulsive with it before folks start thinking I''m going for the witchy look.

And yes, I am generally impulsive about my hair, otherwise, it would never get cut or colored if I planned it.

I also hate spending the money. While I think it looks great with the proper color and cut, my DH never cares for shorter cuts and doesn''t appreciate the coloring. So I feel deflated and spent $200.

I''m not impulsive at all with my hair. I have really long blonde hair nearly down to my *ss and I''ve had it that way for years. The only thing that I do with it is get it highlighted occasionally. I can''t see myself changing it for the next while either, although I might get a couple of inches chopped from the bottom.

Every decision I''ve made about my hair for the past 2 years has been impulsive. I get the urge to do my hair, call my stylist, and go that week to get it done. Just last week I dyed mine espresso brown and chopped it to a super-short pixie with asymmetrical bangs. I love it!

yep yep, been there done that several times, the shortest I''ve had it shoulder length, longest to my knee. one day out of the blue i just went on a lunch break and whacked it all off.... this was returning from maternity leave and needed a pck me uppers...

HI:

Did this at Christmas last year--all over color instead of highlights. Disaster--could not achieve the color I desired and I spend endless amounts of time/$$ "fixing" my wish. Never again will I yield to an impluse over my hair. I need highlights to provide a contrast.

cheers--Sharon

About 3 years ago, I broke up with a now ex-boyfriend and decided to cut my hair that reached the bottom of my shoulder blades to a bob. I was happy with my haircut for about a week, then I missed my hair. Luckily my hair grows fast, but after that, I decided no more impulsive hair decisions. Now the shortest I go is a little past my shoulders, but no shorter. Have to still get my hair into a ponytail.

I uhm.... cut bangs into my hair today. After thought of a couple three days. It needed to be done. If the worst thing is that it will take a zillion years to grow out, I just have to remember, its just hair. lol

You should post your picture Michelle because you look gorgeous with bangs.

If it hasn't been mentioned (I skimmed!) burgundy is a rather high maintenance color. I lurve it- and had deep black/burgundy as my color through most of college- but it washes out faaaast. And stops being burgundy, and goes auburn. For my hair, which is color resistant, I would have a beautiful deep burgundy for about two or three weeks. I dunno, maybe a good stylist could make it last, but everyone I know who went dark burgundy had the same issue.

Impulsive hair cuts are fun, I think. Of the three times I can think of that I radically changed my hairstyle as an adult, every time was a total impulse decision. I loved it twice and the other time, didn't actually hate it but it just wasn't "me".

I cut Bettie Page style bangs into my mid-back length hair about two years ago. Totally random impulse. DH was NOT amused when I walked out of the bathroom with bangs. He sort-of-quietly hated them for a while, but I really liked them and have kept them. He warmed up to the bangs finally, or at least gave up on complaining; I think the fact that I look even more "goth" with bangs was the issue, not that they're unflattering. (The boy has gotten more & more conservative as time goes on, and I think he's patiently harboring a hope that I'll turn all Stepford wife-y some day, at least style wise, but that's soooo not gonna happen...

I'd go for it; if you hate it, hair grows out. And sometimes you just gotta do something like that.

You''re so sweet, thank you.. :) Now.. time for that nap.

Yes, you had better. Don''t worry honey, you will get used to the shift change. It just takes awhile.

I impulsively got my hair thinned out on Thursday. I have really long, verrrry thick hair and it was kind of dead looking.

I regret it.

No offense to thinner hair, just that mine is fairly frizzy and it needed the weight to keep it under control. *Sigh*, it''ll take aaaaages to grow out.
