Importing to UK

Hi all - long time no post... just wondering if anyone can help, since its been a while.

Trying to help a friend in diamond choosing - he''s considering buying from the US, but wondering what the Import duty would be.

Its been a while since i went though all that and the rules where changing when i had my diamond imported, so if anyone knows the current import dutys to the UK... is it still 5% import duty then 17.5% on top?

Recently sent one to UK, so I''ll check with the customer about what duties and taxes he was charged.

Its been a such a while since i was looking into all this i feel a little out the loop.

presenting him with some diamond options ATM - looking at around 1ct, vvs1-si1 E-H for around well initally he asked all in for £5500 which is around $10k. tho i worked on £4-4500 for ring and diamond + £1k for shipping and tax (so $8500 to play with, then take off maybe $1500 for ring, leaving $7k..

so gave him several choices last night, of which he likes: GOG 0.94 G VVS1

and this one: Whiteflash 1.012 G SI1

Now i know that the differances between those 2 are tiny

Tho his upped the limit to £4500 for diamond, with ring, shipping and tax on top - so closer to $8500 to spend. possibly.

If stone is unset tax is 17%

If set it is 2% more according to my customer in UK
