Imperfection?

I''m looking at a platinum set VS2 diamond from the side. It seems that half way down the pavillion the pattern of light refraction changes. It looks almost as if the very bottom (if there''s not cutlet, is there a name for it?) 1/3 or 1/4 of the diamond is filled with water. Is that normal? Or should the transparency/cut/reflection quality stay absolutely consistent throughout the length of the diamond? Imperfection?

What you are seeing is the girdle reflection, many people write in about this thinking it is a crack which has just materialised. Some pictures are in this link:
