I'm still freaking out! Warmer center stone with colorless

Re: I'm still freaking out! Warmer center stone with colorle

It will be FINE!!! :D

If it will help, make your way over to James Allen and look st their setting with live, they show real life 360 views of their stuff. Do a little rummaging and I'm sure you'll find a few pave settings with I color stones.

Re: I'm still freaking out! Warmer center stone with colorle

In my limited experience looking in person at near colorless (H-J), the answer is that it depends on who is looking (apparently some people detect color differences more than others... I definitely notice but it doesn't bother me) and in what conditions (I don't have a rule here, but I do notice color differences a lot more in certain lighting as compared to other lighting; additionally, the closer a diamond gets to profile view, the more color will show).

That said, D to I is a pretty wide disparity, particularly when contrasting a larger I with the smaller D stones (small diamonds already appear super white down at the end of the near colorless spectrum). With that big of a difference, a slight color difference may show even from above in certain conditions.

Safest bet, I think, may be to request that it be set with G or H pave stones. That's what has been recommended to me by certain vendors when I expressed concerns about an I or J.

Also, ditto what Neil said re: James Allen videos. The color difference you see there is quite akin to real life.

Re: I'm still freaking out! Warmer center stone with colorle

Even G-H pave stones are going to look whiter than a H-I center stone because they are just tiny little balls of white light! So expect that they are going to appear a little whiter than the center stone and don't worry about it! My current diamond is I color and my band right next to it is probably F color. There is a slight contrast but not enough to worry about. Just remember that the lighting, walls, and even the clothing worn can affect the color of a diamond. So it will appear whiter or more tinted depending on the environment. But nothing is wrong with an I color diamond and it is far from being a "tinted" stone!

She is going to LOVE this ring! I know it. So stop worrying!!!

This also represents my own personal experience with diamonds.

The center will always look *different* than the sides. The body tint is only a very small contributor to that difference in appearance -- SIZE difference is by far the bigger influence on how the center will look compared to pave. So don't go hunting for tint. You will find it, but not for the reasons you think. The center will pick up and show more environmental colors and so in some environments look much more "tinted" than the sides. But that is due to the optical properties of larger vs. smaller stones much more than it is due to the body color differences.

Not at all, she told me that " I should just get her a ring from Kay's - one of the 2K dollar solitaires.

I am still freaking out until I see this ring in person. My center stone is a 1.20 I VVS1 (www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/10533) and the stones in the setting are advertised as being D4. (http://gabrielny.com/engaged/style/ER8958W44JJ)

Will there be a noticeable difference in color??????????????????

I don't think you'll be able to notice a difference in color... the melee will appear brighter anyway. :) Can't wait to see pics! :naughty:

So, to put your worries in context ;-)

She is expecting you to get her a happy meal from McDonalds.

You instead bought her a meal made by master chef Bobby Flay just for her! And you are worried that she might notice that he used red chillis instead of green, and that she will be upset he did not use green chillis :halo:

She will be BLOWN away!

Dreamer - you are *GIFTED* in how you can turn a phrase!!

I totally support the "she'll be blown away" concept - you have chosen a gorgeous diamond - she will LOVE this!! when does it arrive in your hot little hands??

Looking forward to seeing it! (and your proposal details and hand shots and her reaction...!)
