Hello! I've been looking and learning about diamonds as much as I can for about 9 months now (online and in person) and I'm finally ready to make the purchase! My girlfriend has grown impatient (it's been over 8 years) and I'm ready to propose!

The other day I picked out 4 diamonds that fit into my criteria. Princess .7-.8 D-G VVS1-SI1; $2000 and all fall within the ACA Princess Cut Chart for Ideal (I believe). I can't say I'm absolutely thrilled with the ASET images, but I wanted to get others advice. Do any of these look promising? Can I find better a diamond for my budget?

Here are my diamonds:
Excel 1
Excel 2
James Allen 3
(ASET Below)
James Allen 4
(ASET Below)

Thanks a lot! This site has been incredible!

Fix your link for "Excel 1," as the wrong page comes up.

I think Excel 1 is nice.

I thought Excel 1 was nice as well, except for the flaw in the bottom... Will that be visible to the naked eye?

You should ask the staff about it.

I''m more confused with the lxw ratio of 1.07, but it looks pretty square in the picture.

Should I be that worried about the ratio?

GIA's cutoff for square is 1.05 so 1.07 would be referred to as rectangular, as Julie says it does look quite square in the photo, maybe ask Excel how it looks in reality.

Could be an AGS0 cut graded stone from the polish/symm descriptor on the PS database. Check with Excel and ask for a report number to check if it is so. AGS being the only lab to grade princess cut on cut performance, AGS0 being the best grade awarded, so if it is an AGS0 then chances are very good that it will be a good stone.

This looks interesting? Looks like an AGS0 but not sure, ask Excel if it is. Face up dimension almost the same as your criteria.

What is it about this one that you found interesting? Is it the Polish and the Symmetry?
It is possibly an AGS0 yes going by the polish and symmetry, Excel will be able to tell you if this is the case.

Sounds good. I asked them, so I'll see what they say. I'm overwhelmed by the amount of diamonds available on pricescope. When I narrow down my criteria (Table: 62%-68%; Depth: 64%-75%) I'm still left with like 2 pages of diamonds so I just kind of pick and choose a couple of diamonds. Would you suggest that I also narrow it down by excellent-ideal polish/symm? Or is there something else that I'm missing that would help narrow down my search?

I greatly appreciate the information that you guys provide newbies like myself on a daily basis. I never would've thought there was so much that would go into a diamond...

Try the search by cut quality feature for Princess, that will bring up AGS0 cut grade and hand selected GIA graded Princess which have been chosen for superior optics and beauty in many cases.

Ok, here''s the situation... The AGS0 stone from Excel sold last week, so I wasn''t able to attain an ASET for it. I think I have it narrowed down to Excel 1 and James Allen 3. Neither is perfect, but they are the best I’ve found within my criteria. The Excel 1 diamond has an obvious inclusion on the bottom but Judah claims that it is, “TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY EYE-CLEAN!” and it’s not square. The James Allen stone is square and a better clarity, but the Symmetry is only Very Good compared to Excel’s Excellent. Looking at the side by side comparisons, I think the ASET’s are very similar except Excel 1 has a dead zone in the center (is this cause for concern?).

I’m leaning towards James Allen 3 but I would really appreciate others advice. Should I keep looking? My maximum diamond budget is $2300.

Thanks so much!

To me the Excell looks nicer...it could just be the picture though. It looks very crisp while the JA stone looks kind of
blurry in the center.

I prefer the Excel image.
